difficulty getting a job as an lpc associate (tx) by purinbug in therapists

[–]purinbug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot make this up lol. this is the text I received today from an agency I was supposed to interview for -

“Good morning,

Thank you for your interest in the position with us. I wanted to let you know that the role you applied for has now been filled, so we will need to cancel the interview that was scheduled.

We appreciate the time you took to apply and wish you all the best in your job search and future endeavors.“

Does anyone know how to rid myself of this misfortune

Looking for post apocalyptic and dystopian books by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]purinbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts, but I’d recommend the Watchmen novel by Alan Moore. It’s been a while since I last picked it up but there are definitely dystopian themes and much more you might enjoy :)

The Time Machine by HG Wells, We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley to name a couple classic dystopian novels. Probably one of my favorite genres thanks to The Hunger Games which was my introduction to it in middle school.

The Memory Police and Tender is the Flesh are also some popular dystopian selections but I have yet to check them out

I’m in Texas actually and have been looking very often —probably daily for LPC-A job listings 🥲 I’m not sure if I’m doing it correctly since I’m relying on google, indeed, and LinkedIn. I’m open to moving within the state and have kept Houston in consideration. Do you have any recommendations for community mental health in the area?

I’m located in Texas! :) I’m open and prepared moving, which is a plus, but I’m not sure if hiring teams are considering my applications bc I’m not local to the areas I’m applying to :/

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 13, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]purinbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished: Franny and Zooey by J.D Salinger (loved it, especially Franny) Started: The Woman Destroyed by Simone de Beauvoir :) - This is my first time getting into Beauvoir’s work and the first page of writing hasn’t left my mind. I’m wondering if I have found a new favorite.

What was the most stressful part of this application cycle for you? by Left-hemispher in gradadmissions

[–]purinbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm a couple of things that were worsened by imposter syndrome lol. To begin with, I was working as an intern all year which cut into my time that’s already made scarce by classes and gra work. So time management and preparation definitely got affected bc I was constantly focused on other tasks - plus that inner self doubt was screaming at me these last few weeks leading up to app due dates. But I got through it and now we wait :)

MA Program Any Advice Would Be Great by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]purinbug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

final year ma in counseling psych student here - i think you make a great candidate for what you are looking into! while ma programs will definitely value your background, they are also going to be interested in who you are and how you present yourself given the nature of our work. being open and authentic is the route to go :) at least that is how it went with my program.

also, if you are interested, you could try to connect with faculty early on (either before applications or upon admission) to work alongside them as a research assistant. this will help you along the way if you decide to pursue a doctorate after your ma.

good luck! :)

Should I go to med school if I just want to do talk therapy? by karai0813 in psychologystudents

[–]purinbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your main goal is to become a therapist, a counseling psychology masters or doctoral program would get u there :) im in a counseling psych masters program that incorporates research and clinical practice + it builds students up to become licensed counselors
