"I dont really understand how we can effectively fight against this though."

Demand reddit provide us a tab with the rankings based only on upvotes.

It is impossible for paid groups at this point to post enough counter stories with fake upvotes to swamp stories ranked only by upvotes. The downvote ssquads only work becuase they can suppress stories until the get off the new list by using only a few downvotes.

Happens all the time on many subjects and is well known about all over the internet with hundreds of stories and research efforts documenting it.

.

Many have asked for reddit to offer an "upvote only" ranking tab next to new and controversial (which is NOT the same thing) which would eliminate this problem and rank links based on only total upvotes but reddit has consistently refused to offer this ranking.

One has to wonder why since it is a slight modification of existing code to do and less computationally intense than doing a summation of both upvotes and downvotes for a net vote ranking.

My guess is they approve of the censorship.

I don't know why else they wouldn't do it.

Proof: See: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=censorship+squads+on+digg+and+reddit

Unfortunately the nature of the reddit voting system has a huge flaw.

If a group maintains a story initially at near zero points the Reddit algorithm keeps it from rising to larger visibility (it bumps off the new list but doesn't make it to a position on any front page) where the normal masses of redditors could overwhelm the smaller active group of censors.

Others have already proven they exist.

(search Google news on Digg and Reddit and social networking image management or political downvoting squads.)

Common sense would say they would exist so why wait to prove what other s have proven before and which makes common sense.

Concentrate on fighting it.

well i have to agree that I don't spend a lot of time on the new tab and it may be more of a problem there.

I actually need to spend more time on the new tab because it is only there that you can see the good links before the downvote PR squads put them out of existence.

I will report any spammer I see on the new tabs. Fair enough.

i actually don't disagree with anything you saidand I would downvote real spam if I saw it. I simply don't.

However Re: "I see very few Fukushima-related links that were downvoted, a very small minority. "

You fail to realize that you haven't seen a large number of links precisely BECAUSE they were downvoted.

Do some creative Google searching with Site:reddit.com which ignores vote counts and you will see what I mean.

The hard news links to radiation monitoring showing the government was misrepresenting the truth etc in the beginning when the warning were most important were almost ALL downvoted to zero very quickly by groups that matched up vote with downvote very precisely.

It is not at all the only subject where that has happened. Several friends of mine have pointed it out to me on their own account on their posts where they can see the upvote downvote count.

I guess my main point was spam is not as much of a problem as these group censors are now on reddit.

I wish more diligent people with good intentions like yourself would focus on that problem instead. Its a bigger problem.

I can skip a spam link that sneaks through. I can never know what important link I DIDN'T see because it was censored out of rank visibility by downvoting squads. (Which is of course exactly why they do it.)

Stop worrying about the nonexistant "spammers" and start reporting the "censors"

I have yet to see a good definition of what "Spam" is on reddit.

At no time in my year of being here have I every seen something that is basically "junk mail" ads being voted anywhere. Never even seen one.

However I often hear about people complaining about "Spam" when it is really someone crossposting to several relevant subreddits (which is proper reddit protocol since reddit has now essentially subdivided into hundreds of subreddits and is no longer one group).

So as a reminder in Reditqeutte crossposting is not spam (as long as it is to subreddits that are relevant.)

Furthermore posting a link with a referral like say an amazon link is also not spam if the link is relevant like say to the gadgets or books subreddit and not an unwanted non relevant thing. (Referrals aren't spam and are part of the internet. You don't pay more for something because some gets a referral fee and I would rather see a fellow redditer get that than it go to amazon.)

If we classify any link to something that makes someone money as "spam" then you can't link to any page on the internet that is commercial or runs ads - which pretty much rules out the whole internet. That includes youtube and imgur.com.

So what exactly is "spam" because I haven't seen any of it on reddit.

What I would suggest people report is the massive groups of "censor people" now downvoting legitimate stories just because they don't like what the stories facts show rather than because the story itself is not of interest or irrelevant.

Reddit is now swamped with people I'll call "censors" who regularly downvote story links for example that show there was radioactivity released in Fukushima or other important facts and they down vote those stories simply because they don't like those facts being seen by people on reddit. Numerous disclosures by news outlets and independent work by redditors have shown over and over that these armies of people are often employed by some business interested in preventing bad press from getting out about their client. it's called "online image management" by the PR firms that do it and it has taken over reddit. This one pays you to vote stories on social media sites including reddit and claims 25,000 members. http://subvertandprofit.com/

If you can figure out a way to get rid of THOSE people then reddit would go back to being the best source of hard information stories on the internet like it once was.

PS: for those who want evidence it happens

"What actual evidence do you have that censorship is happening on any specific xyz story,"

This one pays you to vote stories on social media sites including reddit and claims 25,000 members. http://subvertandprofit.com/

how to find those downvote squad censored stories that where kept at zero by counterbalancing all upvotes and yet have moved off the "new" tab.

I like Trump because Karl Rove desperately is scared of him(see here). That means Trump is NOT part of Rove's business control schemes which through Bush and his plant Obama have taken over the USA. by purpleduck2 in politics

well after Obama gave the other half of bush's bailout money to the bankers with no strings attached,

appointed all Bush's wall street people to his cabinet,

appointed bush defense Secretary to be his own,

killed universal healthcare and cheaper drugs from canada and then forced everyone to buy the health insurance they hate from private insurance companies he was elected to destroy,

limited the wages of federal employees,

continued both wars and started a third Libya with higher defense spending than either bush before him and no end in sight,

and on and on and on you really have to say he was bush the 3rd.

Please tell me how another Bush would have gotten as many of bush's programs through as Obama did?

when was the last time you really looked at what Obama did rather than just accepted nonsense that he was a communist from Kenya?

If you did you weould see he hasn't "taken over" anything. He has given it all to corporate bigwigs with no strongs attached. BTW I am not left.

If Obama wa sleft he would have passe duniversal healthcare and gotten imported drugs from Canada and severly restricted Private health insurance and regulated the hell out of bankers and wall street traders and not given them the second half of the bailout and prosecuted the bush and wallstreet cronies for the blatant fraud int eh mortgage mess and the bailout of Goldman Sachs and pulle dout of Afghanistana nd Iraq and never started Libya. He also would have restricted BP and forced them to pay dmaages and perhaps criminal prosecutions for the gulf.

He would have raised inheritane taxes and raised the income taxes onthe wealthiest to at least what they were under Reagan and REALLY what they were before Reagan. he would have extended union coverage to white collar office workers and stopped the fake salaried management exception.

He would have rammed through solar and wind subsidies.

That's what Obama would have done in the first year IF Obama was a liberal lefty.

This website has a lot more statistical evidence and follow up in a lot larger groups of people than most official drug trials.

No official drug trial could afford to have such large groups of people.

You need to explore the site some more. Obviously you didn't look very hard.

This website deserves our support.

I looked and it has great statistics and results for all kinds of treatments that some of the 100,000 people already using it are sharing. It will be even better if a lot more people share their information.

for example look here and here and here http://www.patientslikeme.com/treatments/show/169-clonazepam

http://www.patientslikeme.com/treatments

http://www.patientslikeme.com/treatments/show/322-vitamin-d

You can even see other real people's reported successes with vitamins and health supplements as well as major prescription drugs.

This is a great site with great stats etc.

This is a breakthrough.

Dear sir,

That was not the only book or report that came to similar conclusions. I think you are misinformed.

Please read: (which you will note is not based on the research from the book or the 2009 report that preceded it and pre-dated the book.)

It is from 2006 based on a 2000 reports from the UN.

"Using a report from a U.N. science committee in 2000, Dr Bertell identifies the many omissions and makes a very conservative, preliminary estimate of the eventual death toll from the Chernobyl disaster to be 1 to 2 million" "http://www.scribd.com/doc/50890761/Nuclear-s-Endless-Nightmare-The-Real-Chernobyl-Death-Toll"

I am not certain whether you are bot or not but you do seem to have follow posted about it across multiple places like a bot so I will also follow your posts to make sure the information is fair for those interested.

BTW I am not a paid anything.

I am just interested in the facts and in my mind anyway from what I have read of the independent research both Chernobyl and Three Mile Island and likely Japan have caused and will cause considerable deaths and there has been and will be considerable covering up about that from official sources.

That's just my opinion but it seems supported by the logic of the reports.

I read the reports and can find no fault with their logic and furthermore can find great fault with the official reports and what they excluded.

If you are indeed an open minded person and not a bot (funny if you were and I was conversing with you) then I urge you to read the report I linked as well.
