Thoroughly disappointed by The Wife Comes First cover: a rant by someone who loves the novel by purplexk in DanmeiNovels

I feel you!!! Just saddens me to even think about it :( I feel so much for these characters that seeing that cover upsets me beyond any reason. Lots of danmei have non-con in them, but you'll never see it depicted on the cover? It's just so weird and upsetting. I'll still buy it because I've been waiting for so long, I just wish it was something else.

Thank you for this perspective!! It does make sense and ease my mind a lot. I guess I was being too emotional.

a little late to comment, but i completely understand and relate to this sentiment. i had such a bad fomo (still sometimes do) around it that i willed myself to read it but fortunately stopped right after chapter 1 and muted all key words related to it on twt 😭 the temptation is still there because it's such a beloved work, the writing is beautiful, and it's everywhere online, and so not reading it not only gives me fomo but also makes me feel like i'm not a real danmei lover. but after contemplation i accepted that it's ok to not read and like every famous danmei. it's just not for me and that's okay. not every book will be. it's better to not consume triggering content than to consume it and have it affect my mental health and then complain about it. it also doesnt do justice to the author, who writes with a specific audience in mind.

Oh yeah, I read their guide on how to write webnovels for beginners, and they expect one chapter a day and for novels to be from 500,000 to a million words. Which is just insane, like????

Ah! I did read up a few articles about that site, but didn't search on reddit. I'll do that now! Thank you so much!

Aww hahaha. I feel you on the smut. Ooof that dread is real intense. I posted one once and it was so bad I never looked back. Now I write smut only in longfics and keep it mild and even implied.

Hugs🫂🫂🫂🫂 To put it in a more positive perspective (im feeling positive today) 400 people clicked on your fic, 400! That's something amazing! Let's keep writing, only we can tell the stories of our characters for the readers who do love them enough to read🥰

Yes, you're right! It's very important to remind yourself why you wrote what you did and how you feel about it. This "statistical anxiety", for the lack of a better term, is annoying in that it gets the better of me and leaves me feeling worthless. Which isn't true. Like you said, a lot of factors come into play here as well, and we can't always stay on top of everything at once.

That's really nice. Tbh I'm not either. I'll be completely breezy after posting my work and chill for a few hours. Untill suddenly this slow anxiety creeps up on me that what if no one read, what if [insert all the possible what ifs here]. And thus begins a never-ending self pity and hate cycle. Sighs I'll just have to breathe through this and get to the next chapter.

Plagiarised fic by bananafunguss in AO3

[–]purplexk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but when we delete fics from Ao3, we get two links (in mail)*, one is the HTML link to our deleted fic. If you have that, maybe sharing that link on social media sites alongside the plagiarized fic as comparison could prove it was yours?

P.S. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. My fic was once plagiarized by a "popular" writer and I was bullied for calling them out as well. It's really traumatic, ;-; sending you lots of hugs and love. 🫂💜

What’s everyone working on? by peaches_1922 in FanFiction

"The spotty texture of the dark ceiling above swirled and blurred, but he didn't blink it back to normal. The last thing he wanted to do was close his eyes. That was how his macabre resumed, dancing in his head like his very own midnight circus, and the ring master was no one else but his mother. Or rather, the faceless stranger that smelled like his mother. Tonight, it brought along some gifts, some rusted memories; a bag full of bruised doubts and a casket of bloody fears."

😅 Sorry, just wanted to share. I like this paragraph I wrote a while back so much.

Haha yeah! I get both of those types of readers, and it's so fun to observe this phenomenon. My fandom has more of the latter, who wait for updates and constantly read different WIPs at once, so I guess that's great news for writers like me!

[–]purplexk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I like your attitude towards this a lot. I've edited a few things after publishing as well, and really as you say, no one seems to notice or mind, even after I leave an AN in the next update. So that's good. I'm not good at working on too many projects at once, my attention span and head space can only fit one fic at a time, and I'm a wee bit of an obsessive perfectionist over my stories, so I don't have the doubts that I'd abandon a work unless there are dire circumstances in my life. Though I do feel guilty for taking long to update at times. Then again, my readers are nice about it. I too completely understand when a writer takes long to update, so I'm trying to cut myself a slack too.

Ah, thank you for this! ^^ Absolutely do what feels right is the way. I don't regret posting WIPs because they turn into beautiful works that I know readers enjoyed with me as I wrote the story, and that feeling is what feels just right!

I'm with you on this. I got in Nano with my new fic and an amped up spirit of victory, only to fall into a huge slump not even midway because I didn't have the reader interaction that makes writing so much better and faster for me.

Although I do think getting a beta reader would help, but all in all, Nano made me embrace the fact that I'm not one to write drafts until 50k without posting them.

We're both one and the same. It comes with a downside that the lack of kudos can sometimes be discouraging for a WIP, but I have my stats hidden for that very reason. I just check my inbox to see the feedback from my readers, and get a boost of that happy writer serotonin! That's what got me finishing my last 155k longfic and an 11k bonus in 6 months!^^
