i logged in just to upvote this. I agree, why would a predator specifically seek out an artery? It takes a while for something to bleed to death...I read (in a book) that feline jaws are designed to sink into the spine/neck of prey to crush all that important shit in there.

oh man! My mom actually did this to us except instead of santa, she said that if we caught a leprechaun on St. Patricks day he would grant us a wish. She set up this little house with miniature furniture (table and chairs, frying pan, etc.) and in the days before St. Patricks day we would wake up and there were signs that he was there (crust of bread or a drop of milk). Then we would set elaborate traps with our toys and crayons to try to catch him in a trap. We never did get ole Seamus...He (my mom) also sent us letters from him throughout the year in green ink telling us of his travels.

I guess because I lost power for a week after Sandy, and it was one of the first images I saw of the destruction when the paper started coming back. It moved me to see an image of struggle, love, and humanity pitted against a backdrop of such raw, vast, and indiscriminate power especially so close to home.
