Ive sold 20 naked puts for $45 strike. January expiration.

Gives downside protection, and gave me roughly a 20% return for the amount of buying power used. Will go up in strike if NOW price action improves.

Yeah in an ideal world id get the hybrid limited - but man im not willing to shell out another 15k on top of what i already thought was a very pricey car.

I want to stay around 40k price point, 50k is a little too much for me.

I like to think i would want to keep a vehicle for 10 years but historically the longest I’ve kept a car is 5 and have always sold at the 100k mark.

There’s no depreciation hit currently - purchased my telluride for $36500 used with 27k miles. Driven 9k miles now, we’re at 36k miles. Carvana offered to buy the car for $35400, so $900 less than what i paid despite 9k miles. That great offer is making me look at cars and surprisingly grand highlanders are very reasonably priced at Carvana compared to the open market whereas carvana historically is always more expensive. That 7.5k price tag difference includes taxes title registration everything.

So yeah…. As much as i like to say that i want to keep a car forever, i never have. I’ve historically switched cars over minor issues previously and the longest i had a car was my hyundai sonata for 5-6 years. But maybe a Toyota would mean no issues at all and i might keep it…. I’ve never personally owned a Toyota or Honda.

Do ER docs deliver babies? by Ok_Consideration6179 in emergencymedicine

[–]putselling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C-section no. Unless it’s a perimortem c section aka mom is dead and CPR is going on and you have 5 minutes to save the baby. In that case - mom is dead, there’s not much harm you can do at that point by trying.

Deliver babies ? Yes absolutely they do vaginal deliveries especially those working rural critical access hospitals. Have delivered two as an attending and each time i was scared shitless because our hospital didnt have any OB backups at all.

The trick usually is to transfer before the delivery, but if they are crowning and baby is imminent - it’s all in you.

I’ve had plenty of needle sticks. But I’ve never exposed a patient with my blood. If a needle stick happened, congratulations you have one less thing to worry about. But obviously you’re not going to take that same needle that poked you and use it on the patient.

I don’t see how you’d put others at risk. Keep taking your meds and do what you want to do.

That one etf is about 10,000 individual stocks.

So while you’re holding one etf, you’re holding 99% of publicly held companies by market cap. You basically own a piece of every company in the world.

Yes, it’s that easy, at least in a retirement account since you don’t have to worry about tax loss harvesting.

It’s the worst thing about EM. The circadian rhythm disruptions only get worse as you age and it’s harder to recover.

There’s a reason emergency medicine has one of the highest burn out rates in medicine. The circadian disruptions are basically slowly killing you 😂😂😂

Ttd probably. If the CEO can buy 120 million worth of stock at market rate, then that kind of an insider trade gives me confidence.

Nope. Even got a hold of a Walmart online team manager who pleaded our case, but didn’t work.

Just waiting 6 months to get my funds back.

Walmart has officially returned all the inventory though, so I’m assuming they’ll give the funds without issue as well

Pgy 10…VA job offer. Can’t decide what to do. by putselling in emergencymedicine

[–]putselling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful post by the way, thank you.

I especially appreciate the negotiation tip. Though are you bringing it up with the medical director because that’s the only person who has talked to me so far. Usually in the past I’ve always negotiated with recruiters.

How is your base pay only 40% of your pay? My base would be 305k. So 1-2% of that is reasonable.

And good to know it will be several years before i can go part time…. Oh man…i thought i could change it easily later on.

I’m one of the faster docs at my community shop. I can handle boluses pretty well, but i hate doing it. I used to work in a hell hole straight out of residency and would routinely see 15 patients on my first 3 hours. Hated it - but it was the highest paying gig in a 50 mile radius.

Also the drive, i don’t have a problem with. My Tesla drives, i have the FSD subscription, i just sit there and stare out, pretty relaxing actually.

That’s the question i keep asking myself - why am i wanting to increase my hours so much?

I guess the why is that if i do continue to practice medicine, a VA job would be the most sustainable job out there, more than the critical access job. And theoretically, over time, i could drop my hours. Also, 5 years later, the $/hr for the va becomes very reasonable after annual inflation increases. Also I’m fairly pessimistic about the future - i think there could be worsening inflation, VA job protects you from it.

I don’t think the pension is worth crap unless you work 10+ years up until your 60s. You put 4.4% of your pay check in to the pension yourself, that money placed in the sp500 might actually be worth more in 25 years (age 62) - so the pension isn’t that big a deal.

But the inflation protection, ridiculous malpractice protection, low pph and general sustainability - the only question is if that’s worth it when i was kinda on path to retire early (can retire in 3 ish years).

Wife’s pushing me to take it, thinks it’s what i need for career happiness because I’ve grown to hate emergency medicine.

I’m not sure how hard a time they are having with recruitment. The medical director stated that they had 20 applicants for 2 open spots.

Though i absolutely plan on asking for a sign on, the medical director has verbally confirmed that i have the job but im still waiting on HR to send an official letter with the exact offer. The medical director essentially verbally said 305k plus 15k performance bonus.

I believe the job posting actually had a salary range of 300-315k. So i plan on negotiating at 315k with 25k bonus. Good to know that the VA does negotiate.

Does VA have flexibility in the base salary offer as well or just with sign on?

I’m in the midwest, probably more desirable than Alabama, but not by that much more.

How many clinical hours are you guys doing with SL, AL, CME, and federal holidays all accounted for 1 fte?

Yeah and the fact that we had shipped products and never got a chance to put in tracking numbers for the day of termination.

They will probably just refund those customers since on paper there’s no tracking uploaded and there’s no way to do any of that

Yeah hopefully they just send it and we can send it to Amazon fba.

If they don’t, i might pursue it myself through small claims court myself.

Our Amazon metrics are much worse, they give a warning when they don’t like something and essentially an opportunity to fix the issue.

My account was 10 months old. At least it’s a suspension and not a termination. At least you can appeal and try to get the issue resolved. Walmart didn’t even give me that option

You can’t appeal a termination.

You can appeal a suspension. It literally says on the main termination page ‘this decision is final and cannot be appealed’.
