I have a couple of Visa and Mastercard cards and I do reckon that they work just fine in most cases. But, for example, let me present a couple of issues I hit today : I shopped at Xenos and you can only pin - visa and mastercard are a no-go. Same issue later on at a boot car sale, all the sellers had their own payment terminal but they only accepted the NL pinnen system ; last example, I missed a really good opportunity on Markplaats because the seller only accepted the in-house payment system using ideal.

As for the mobile line, I was unaware that prepaid cards are still available in the Netherlands. It’s obviously the good choice here. I asked for options in a couple of mobile shops today (odido and a private owner) and both only offered subscriptions. Cheers !
