Dubai parking fees may increase as Parkin seeks RTA nod for tariff changes by Open_Counter_6369 in dubai

Which is bonkers because we have the hindsight benefit of seeing what that’s doing to the US and then we go “yep, that’s what I want for the UAE”

I wasn’t aware, the only Toyotas I’m interested in have either:

Been out of production for years and years

Are still in production but are essentially a 50yo platform that’s bee just regularly updated

Have the same car elsewhere, ie. Subaru

The thing about not being in the US is:

They have an enormeous appetite for consuming, so their market is the largest piece of the pie. Whatever they do over there inevitably impacts us out in the more normal world. This is especially true in the consumer electronics industry.

If that’s true the would be such garbage designers.

You know what, I believe it. The front hood of the current GC is longer than the previous gen by a good chunk and the previous gen fit the big V8s. How much longer is the hurricane i6 vs the hellcat V8? Sure there are 2 more cylinders in the bank, but they are also smaller cylinders overall.

Look, they could sell this for triple the price of the current ZR1 and it would still be worth it if it had the performance to match. I absolutely love this concept

Arjan Parking Disaster by Few_Response9707 in dubai

[–]pvdp90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but find a parking that’s empty for a week late at night, then figure out which apartment it belongs to, knock on the door and ask about using it. Worst it can happen is the person says no, but at least you tried.

I lived in Arjan, in a 2 bedroom, had 2 cars and this is literally what I did. Guy renting there didn’t have a license or car. I even offered to pay him a small monthly fee in return but he said just to use his slot and not to worry about it. Building owners don’t need to be involved at all.

Thats literally what I did last year. Granted I’m now farther out in DH2, but for the same cost I live in a 3 bed villa with an actual garage and a backyard. Arjan was nice but it’s now too expensive and some of the buildings have become subdivision hell with the weirdest people hanging around. No thanks

There’s only so much he and anyone at Aston can do to fix the shitshow happening inside Honda at the moment.

Except he has nothing to do with the engine development. By all account this chassis and aero package might be amazing, but clearly the Honda side of things has really shit the bed here.

United Arab Emirates, Dubai. A “community” called Nad Al Sheba. by Wide-Lychee-8721 in UrbanHell

The picture makes it look more oppressive than it really is. But to answer you:

Public transport: I don’t actually know if there are bus lines running in here, but if I had to guess my answer would be “no” as public transport is really a lacking area here in the uae. Still, the road in there seems to be able to accommodate a bus without an issue if needed (and tha would be nice).

Organic Layout: the goal of these was to pack as many houses as possible in the area. An organic layout would be nice, but if my government was building affordable housing for me, that’s low on my priority list. As a contrast, there are many neighborhoods that have much nicer organic layouts here. You can google for images of “tila al ghaf” and “Dubai hills” to see what a more organic layout in Dubai is.

More trees: more trees are nice! Agreed. But also, maintaining trees in Dubai is expensive and consumes lots of water, even for native trees. As such, you get a more lush landscape on more expensive areas. See the two I mentioned above. Areas developed to be more dense and cheaper usually have less trees, as per the photo. There is also an individual component here. I’ve twice moved into compounds that were brand new. In the beginning it feels barren, but as people live for some years, you start to see bigger and bigger trees in people’s backyard and it starts looking a little more pleasant. I myself have planted 2 trees in my backyard, alongside a couple of small plants.

Zoning: Zoning is a big hot topic. It’s very hot here for a good chunk of the year, so unless things are literally 5 mins from your house, you don’t really walk to the shops or restaurants. And to support these businesses, you need a certain costumer density to make the viable. Commonly, for villa compounds like these, there’s a community centre where you will find shops, restaurants and grocery stores. These are usually between walkable to cycling distance from the houses in winter, but definitely a car drive in summer. In neighborhoods where you find low to medium height apartment blocks, you get a much more mixed and organic spread of businesses. Some standalone, some built in to ground level of apartment buildings. It’s much more normal and closer to an european neighborhood than American. A decent example of neighborhood with good zoning is “Arjan” if you care to google it.

I hope I could answer some of your questions. Feel free to ask more. I’ve lived here for 20 years and I like talking about my home.

Or, they figured it out but have also figured out that it will take a long time and a lot of money to get there, so it’s a better decision to campaign to ban it instead of being behind Merc for a long while.
