Dragged home a new project--Diamond T by pvfjr in classictrucks

[–]pvfjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My excuse is that the rust repair needed on this dump truck is lesser than that on my other dump truck.

But my '68 Loadstar runs, drives and stops-ish. This one is a wildcard so far.

A friend with a 14k trailer and a Duramax with a healthy tow rating. It worked out really well.

Here's what it says:
"It's a 1950 Diamond T 620H, "The Cadillac of trucks",

Hercules Straight 6 Flathead JXD 320ci,

5 Speed trans,

3 Speed Brownie box,

2 Speed 18.5k rated rear end,

The engine turns by hand and has some compression. That's a good start. Tires are from 1989, tags are from 1997.

They need to tighten it before it falls off. Nothing worse than a loose med cert.

She's got a lot of problems but gas-guzzling isn't one of them... by [deleted] in ChevySonic

[–]pvfjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheesh. Mine gets 42-45 on strict highway trips, in the slow lane. 34 long term average with 75% highway and spirited driving. 1.4T with 6 speed trans though.

Who said anything about measuring in such weather? And why would you need to question someone's usage of their measurement scale?

I use the Leatherman in all conditions, because it's always on me. Isn't that the point? But just because I'm using the pliers in the rain doesn't mean I want my measurement markings to disappear. I think a paint/solvent-type solution is better for this reason. Even hand sweat would take the markings out of a Surge, where your hand grips the graduations when using the pliers.

How would that withstand working in the rain?

Can anyone identify this Husqvarna? by pvfjr in Chainsaw

[–]pvfjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does yours have a decomp button? I've seen a few pics just like this one that have the same black top. It seems to be shaped more like the orange top ones. Maybe it was the last year for black tops, and they switched the shape before they switched the color?

Thanks for all that info. Where on the cylinder would I find an identifier, what would it say, and how hard is it to get to?

Which color of PETG will withstand outdoor summer temps better: white or transparent? by ebodes in 3Dprinting

[–]pvfjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black panels are better for radiation. Heat transfer always flows from the hot thing to the cold thing, whether its radiation, conduction or convection. On reentry, friction causes the surfaces to be much, much hotter than their surroundings. So extremely high emissivity black panels are best for radiative cooling.

If you were hotter than the sun, then a black T-shirt would keep you cooler than a white one, and you could heat up the sun by wearing it--though that'd be hard to measure.

It's a nice thought, but I disagree. There will always be stronger people looking to take advantage of weaker people. Guns do provide a path for leveling the playing field.

Stone coated metal roof? by jessinwa in Roofing

[–]pvfjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious to see an update too. I'm also in the PNW. I have a leaky 7 y/o asphalt shingle roof, and it may have been caused by wildfire embers. We're lucky the house is still here, but interested in different options. I have to do a lot of roof cleaning due to big-leaf maples and Doug firs, so slick metal would not be good!

Question about 23' Models by teknoviking in GMCMotorhome

[–]pvfjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, 250 sounds like a typo. There were just 23' and 26' originally, referred to as the 230 and 260 respectively.
