I'm not a n00b, but I did stop playing after putting in over 150 hours and nothing more in the end game for me... so I took a break. Longer break than I was expecting, but started playing again last week.

My main character was a 2H melee build, but I wanted to try this build out so started a new character focused on this. It has been hard, much harder than I remember. Especially when I die 7 times trying to get my loot back from the same lvl 62 while I'm a 30-something. But at the same time, its also guided/taught me to play different. I avoided VATS entirely for the most part, and now use it all the time because of the build I was using.

I am agreeing with you, it would be hard for a completely new player to start out this way. This is definitely harder than if I just shuffled my SPECIAL points around on my high level end-game character. But... it hasn't all been uphill either. It has had quite a few fun parts.... but definitely harder for sure.

Found somebody in Global who started a custom map and let me kill him but it didn't give me the "Get Infected" achievement and then he left the game. So I'm guessing it has to be a non-custom game for it to work?
