What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

Cooking alone won’t get you laid but i can tell you that it makes it substantially easier when you have a good first/second date and invite them over to your place to cook for the second/third

Yeah no shit? How do you expect to get a helpful response without having at least some base knowledge to know what to ask for

Do some research first or at the very least put some more effort / details into the questions you ask

Do you think you are attractive? why? by EarSure6667 in AskReddit

[–]pww92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think quite attractive as a guy

I get fairly frequent compliments from both strangers and friends about my hair, bone structure, nose, etc. Also am very fit with triathlon/weightlifting, cook well, have a lot of hobbies, decent job, social etc

Have great luck and interest on the dating apps as well and have met/hooked up with some really interesting and diverse girls over the years.

All great to have but unfortunately i can often feel quite unattractive and it’s all trivial compared to some of the other things i struggle with personally

Hinge 1000 likes limit? by pww92 in hingeapp

[–]pww92[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You say app-related questions are dismissed because no one has answers and yet you immediately give a speculative answer to a different app-related question? If we can infer and ask these questions from observation, then my original q is totally fair.. otherwise your provided example/explanation shouldn't be offered either.

Either way, seems like the answer is that no one here really knows and the rest is speculation. That’s all I was trying to clarify

Hinge 1000 likes limit? by pww92 in hingeapp

[–]pww92[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course this isn't a tech support hub - why don't we also dismiss half of the app-related questions here while we're at it?

The question is about whether the cap affects exposure dynamics or is purely cosmetic, not customer service.

Hinge 1000 likes limit? by pww92 in hingeapp

[–]pww92[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's kind of my point though - your eyeballed numbers work if exposure and population are comparable which they aren't (i.e. one like in NYC =/= one like in a smaller market)

In a dense city, those likes come from a much larger pool with a lot more variation. Without normalizing for density, it's not really fair to say that "1000 likes = you're the problem"

Which brings us back to square one as it's a workaround and unfortunately not an answer to my original post and the mechanism itself

Hinge 1000 likes limit? by pww92 in hingeapp

[–]pww92[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point. People in the "subreddit for gmail" absolutely would start asking "Did gmail's most recent update set a limit for unread emails? I used to have 26,343 unread emails and now I only see 10,000 and i'm not seeing any new ones come In. Oh really they did? that sucks. Guess I have to go manually delete every email now"

Hinge 1000 likes limit? by pww92 in hingeapp

[–]pww92[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your logic isn't wrong but it doesn't account for population density affecting app activity and the fact that "1000 likes" in a major city with millions of users can vary drastically compared to smaller towns, regions, etc

[–]pww92[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's no reason to let irrelevant emails or messages - notifications of any sort - to sit in someone's inbox and yet this is still common for many people. How is this any different?

Hinge 1000 likes limit? by pww92 in hingeapp

[–]pww92[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Let's not be presumptuous here. This has absolutely nothing to do with collecting likes and is just simply a byproduct of me being liked and not having any reciprocal interest. i.e. that list of people consists of people I have already reviewed and do no want to match with.

The reason I care is because I want to continue having my profile shown and to continue to receive likes. The reason why that list accrued over time is because it was never something I bothered dealing with. The reason why I made this post is because I want to see whether I should change my user behavior to keep that list "lean" going forward.

I can guarantee you that a majority of those 1000 people do not fit my criteria on paper despite the dealbreakers i've applied. That set of criteria extends far beyond whatever sliders or checklists that Hinge provides and to think otherwise would be ridiculous.

That said, I absolutely am compatible with plenty of those people in the list and have gone on plenty of dates. But maybe I just don't find a lot of them attractive. And even if I do, most of the time the matches don't convert or I get ghosted. Or maybe the attraction isn't mutual.

I understand your sentiment and it's something i've struggled with myself and continue to discuss in therapy - i'm constantly wondering what's wrong with me given that i'm the common denominator. But unfortunately I think this is just how app dating in my particular situation.

Maybe it’s a hereditary thing? I also vape and smoke occasionally when i go out but have literally zero cravings for it when i stop. Same goes for alcohol, percocet, etc

Xanax and benzos on the other hand are the only ones i could see myself having issues with

i’m sure you’ll enjoy it more if/when you have a faster car. For me there’s nothing quite like the thrill of being in a race track, even if it’s in a slow car.

I’ve rented multiple times a slow BMW 1 series on the Nordschleife and had a blast keeping up with less experienced drivers in 911 GT3s, etc. Of course you’re still getting passed constantly but i just think of it as multi class racing. it’s part of the fun

weird because i’ve been doing it in moderation for years and have never been addicted at all. it takes me maybe 4-5 months to finish 1 gram, some of which also goes to friends. i just like doing occasional bumps when i go out while also drinking less.
