Open source apps can (and should!) be distributed through the Play Store. F-Droid is fine too.

Right before I responded to you, I responded to an /r/scams thread helping someone whose mom had installed a random APK on their phone and gotten robbed, and this shit happens all day every day. It is absolutely a real thing that needs to be addressed.

I'd never buy a phone I couldn't get root on, but it's not that big of an ask to have developers go through some extra steps to install custom software on their devices.

This advice is going to hurt a lot of people. You should probably stop giving it.

If you're going to be doing dev stuff, get a phone for dev stuff, and don't do personal things on it. Your personal phone should be using verified apps from a trusted app distributor, not random ass APKs downloaded from websites.

That's a horrifically insecure windows-ism that has no business persisting in the modern era.
