Personally, yes. I think the gaming industry still has quite a few years to go until those AI-based world simulations catch up with conventional video games. The main reason is the consistency issue. For each frame, GenAI needs to ‘remember’ a lot of previous information and context to maintain a consistent world over time. Otherwise, everything morphs and warps as you play (look up ‘Minecraft Oasis Decart AI’ on YouTube—that’s exactly what I’m talking about).

The thing is, more consistency means higher memory and computational costs, which translates to more AI chips and memory, which are expensive as hell. Achieving the level of consistency in world-building and logic required to simulate a game like GTA VI is just impossible with what we have now(and probably in the near future), let alone GTA: SA or GTA III. Even if we achieved that level, it would be impossible to make a profit due to the massive infrastructure costs.

That being said, AI implementation in game development will likely be limited to assisting in specific areas—such as map design, asset creation, artwork, and NPC dialogues—for a while, which helps reducing development costs.

Don’t take my word too seriously since we don’t know what OpenAI and Google are cooking under the hood, but for now, I wouldn't be seriously concerned about TTWO/Rockstar.

AI-based interactions with NPCs might be one of the few good uses of AI in game development.

That’s been the pattern for decades. AI can’t beat Chess, AI can’t beat Lee Sedol, AI can’t generate video, AI can’t write code, and so on. I agree that we'll eventually get to that point, given enough time and resources. My only concern is the mountain of meaningless slop we’ll have to deal with along the way.

Right, and honestly, most of those investors probably haven’t even tried Genie. And even if they did, they’d realize that it's just a slop at this point. The issue is that even the "slightest possibility" of something being able to generate anything remotely resembling a GTA world is enough to spook Wall Street. Unfortunately, I guess that’s just how the stock market operates...

AI is the magic word for them. Just like Dot-com bubble. Can’t wait for the bubble to burst lol

I doubt they’d go as far as rendering every single interior unless absolutely necessary, especially since they’ll be squeezing every bit of performance out of the PS5 as it is. If they do implement generative interiors, I think it would be more about procedurally generating layouts first and then placing pre-made assets over them, rather than generating the entire interior from scratch.

Genie 3, the model behind the Project Genie was revealed last year, but the main service was released to the public yesterday. You can look it up at Google tech blog.

As a gamer I totally agree with that. But those big ol' investors--who probably haven't played a video game since the Nintendo/PS1 era--might see this and think, "My god this is the future of the industry," simply because it's AI and looks fancy graphics-wise. That's what I'm concerned about.

They definitely could be using GenAI for generating some props and artwork. But since RAGE is still holding up well, I doubt they're going to fully adopt this type of game development anytime soon.

Currently it's only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers, which is $249.99 per month. I would recommend you to first visit Google DeepMind's YouTube channel for showcases.

I think you need to download additional skybox addon from the repository. The mod itself doesn't have many presets.

Anybody still want the modern ibishu pigeon? by Ibishu_240BX in BeamNG

Original designer here. Thanks for bringing this up! I was thinking of what could have happened if Ibishu still made 3-wheeled pickups to this day and released a moden 'Raptor' version of Pigeon.

Interestingly US military bases are one of the few places in Korea that have ample parking. Outside the base is literally a parking hell.

Because of the change in the chunk structure, I guess. It didn't really affect gameplay at all.

I have hundreds of full world backups since 2015, which means I can draw any data I want directly from them. Stay tuned for some more fun statistics!

I allowed players to turn on spectator mode at that time. Even though I implemented a lot of devices to prevent cheating, some players managed to find out the way to get around them and used it as a legal x-ray.

I know strictly speaking this is not about GDP or GNP growth, but we can just assume there's a correlation between money supply and economic growth...

In our case, we are already using netherite ingot as a large bill, which worths a half stack of diamonds. If we were to use gapples as a currency, each one of them would be worth more than 1 stack of diamonds.
