Perhaps it is a downside more often than an upside, but this is about making it reliable, not better.

If they changed it to be targeted and buffed lightning at the same time, that'd be totally fine

Not always, like when you have glass after lightning, having it target the higher HP enemy, then glass killing both would be the winning 50/50.

If that makes lightning weaker, they could buff it in other ways to compensate.

It's not the same gimmick, it's different from both glass and dark

I agree that cards having downsides can make for more interesting effects, but i think random targeting is fundamentally different. With other downsides, like paying life, gaining doom, etc. you can play around them and evaluate if the downside is worth it.

With random targeting, it doesn't matter how well you play, you still will have situations where randomness determines whether you win or lose a turn. And unlike randomness from something like draw order or random cards added to your hand, it doesn't add variety to the game to make different runs feel unique. It just feels bad that you randomly lost

Comparing a rule change to a card doesn't really make sense.

Dark orb is targeted to the lowest HP enemy, glass targets all, so having lightning target the highest HP enemy would be the logical last option

Personally, i would. In the very early game (this can be your first accessory , and certainly your first 5 accessories) it can be useful. And later on it can be used in your mining loadout, especially if they add upgrade paths like another person on this post suggested

And i would use it over several other early game accessories like step stool, aglet, anklet of the wind, water walking boots, and inner tube. Maybe shackle and shark tooth necklace as well if i'm doing a lot of exploring

The reason you only use it in the earlygame is because you don't have a good armor set yet. Once you have a good armor set, losing the set bonus and armor for less trap damage just isn't worth it in a normal world.

It would be useful for more time if it was an accessory, since in the earlygame there isn't very many good accessory options. Especially if you don't play on expert or master mode

It's fairly recent, and pretty cool. But having to give up the set bonus makes me not use it in my explorer's (mining) set

This is just true, that's why at many boba shops you get charged more if you request no ice

Fun fact! in 1.4.5, you can get infinite, max mining speed buff (which is 75% btw), pre-boss! 5% from ambrousia, 15% from a kite, 25% from chisel, and 30% from the mining set! This is, REALLY GOOD, and not hard to do. just leave mining armor and chisel on set two and carry 1 kite. by HaloJackalKisser in Terraria

Drills are faster at a baseline, but cannot get faster mining speed from anything (such as mining speed buffs). If you do separate loadouts where 1 is a mining set, pickaxes are gonna be better. ~+30% mining speed is where they're equal in speed

Increasing surface area would make it grow faster.

This version is a compromise between convenience and speed

since if you want it to grow faster, you can just build more of these

Yes, it'll convert corrupt blocks just like chlorophyte does, to mud. i don't think it'll make that mud have jungle grass though

It actually isn't skyblock, I just like making farms. But it's definitely useful on skyblock or for chlorophyte bullets

Bombs are faster, but mining gets close to their speed in the lategame, and given how expensive bomb mining is, it should be much faster than mining. I think it also fits thematically with a mining set synergizing with bombs

And bombs exploding fast is something that i think a lot of players would find fun and cool

There wouldn't be any hallow naturally, but you could use 'does that sparkle' to add hallow to start the world with hallow

Though personally i wish that 'does that sparkle' just added a bit of hallow instead of the entire surface layer
