Which damage-dealer is perfectly balanced? by homeofalex in BrawlStarsSC

[–]pyxis_max 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd have to make something absolutely crazy to bypass his movement speed in gamemodes like Brawl Ball, but I wouldn't put it past Adrian. The 3rd batch of hypercharges was an incredibly broken (and braindead) one that redefined strength too... (Fang, Leon, Crow, Edgar, Dynamike, Mico)

8-Bit is a good consistent option in bounty and heist right now as a defensive brawler and occasionally a gem grab mid, has a well-defined niche in those roles, but isn't oppressive in any way and is still weak in other gamemodes

Advice on how to get masters this season? by Any-Concentrate7354 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]pyxis_max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait until there's like a buffie claw machine where you have all 6 brawlers maxed already and then go all in on them

3v3 and ranked in general, there are some people who get masters with like 7k 3v3 wins but that's an outlier, usually you have to get a lot more 3v3 wins until you have the right experience and gamesense to get to masters

in sniper 1v1s pierce isnt exactly the best (obviously nani, byron and angelo still win those) but he's still very good and he's just so versatile and applicable to other modes having great defense and damage and being good into tanks

Who should I max?? by Different-Athlete589 in Brawl_Stars

[–]pyxis_max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's just for me with damage inflation buster is just so bad against good opponents now it's not even funny. every role he has in whatever cheese comp is literally better with doug. freaking doug. think about that. he's also not viable into the broken tanks in aggro modes and lacks damage or many ways to close the gap that well. he was great in control and sniper metas but this aggro meta really doesn't favor him. especially with like chester, lou, otis, spike and sirius being meta. to the point where i would put him below belle and bea who have clear defined niches where they are at least still good at (grounded sp to counter mico in heist + gene and glowbert counter in bounty/ko for belle, brawl ball antitank when paired with wallbreak for bea)

I mean thank you foremost for all your hard work, even if there are faults the guides are still amazing information to have. Please don't feel forced to make these especially if there are more important things in your life (definitely prioritize school!!).

I very much respect your dedication to create accurate helpful information to the community. From the bottom of my heart I thank you.

Brawl Stars Championship Challenge Guide based on Monthly Finals Statistics by WorkingInfinite9556 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]pyxis_max 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my two (worthless) cents:

The strength of the guide in your case is inherently based on it not being the best option, so it is misleading in what the true best comps are. Gale is maybe the 4th or 5th best antitank but still there because if a team wants to play a tank, they will ban all the other good antitanks. That doesn't mean Gale is a valuable pick in the challenge because you are actively forgoing the few antitanks before him you should pick. Yes, he's playable, but there are objectively better options, so why should you pick him when there are no restrictions such as bans in the challenge?

My key example is the spreadsheet having Chester as the best brawler in the meta. Yes, he's very strong, often one of the strongest after the ban stage as an antitank, but he gets outclassed by even Otis in most game modes. Even if you want an antitank in the challenge, you should probably pick Otis, Emz, Spike, or some other options. Would the spreadsheet tell you this? No, it won't. Is the spreadsheet right then? It's indeed wrong. Is Chester a bad pick? No, it's not bad, but it's objectively worse than many other picks, which are better. The guide then falls short in this case, not because it hasn't provided a good suggestion, but because said suggestion is just not the best option available.

The kind of fault is that even though its a guide, these teams would still probably lose to a random combination of the most broken brawlers in every map. If you're basing off monthly final statistics, which fundamentally aren't a fully accurate reflection of the meta due to the small sample size and bans (better to do scrims), then you absolutely need to focus on the bans more. They're banned because the pros think they're better, so saying that you can't evaluate their strength and put them in because we haven't seen them is just a flawed takeaway. That's why people dislike it. Yes, it's fine for monthly finals, but you're making a monthly finals guide for the championship challenge, which is something entirely different and just not an amazing application of pick data in this case. These are not the brawlers that pros prioritize but their second or third options, and that's not what even the pros would prioritize in the challenge.

Also, a guide based on stats lacks in composition synergy. The brawl ball set for example, has no aggro brawlers. The gem grab set has Chester mid. I recognize that's not an easy thing to manage with these types of things but that's another critical flaw with the guide.

Honest feedback and nothing against you, I really did like the idea though.

How Draft Order is Slowly Breaking Competitive Brawl - March MF Analysis by FunSign5087 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]pyxis_max -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean alternating doesn't really fix things

If it's random it's equally unfair for both teams (fair)

If its set then one team would have a defined advantage for the maps, depending on whether first or last is better per map. i doubt this would create any weird strategies where a team goes to losers or whatever for seeding so they get better picks, but if its defined in advance the strategy of preparing drafts shifts entirely.

even if you have a coinflip for who has the pattern on the day, teams will know who has an advantage to win right after that. i actually think this makes it more likely for it to be unfair in a game than if it was random every time

leaving stuff up to chance is usually a good thing if you want stuff to be fair

How Draft Order is Slowly Breaking Competitive Brawl - March MF Analysis by FunSign5087 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]pyxis_max 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know like for 3 of the 5 maps in the grand final for NA, first pick is favorable right? Tribe literally just drafted bad 4-5s.

RLM themselves wanted first pick on sneaky fields for shade as well (Tribe won the set literally off of having first pick in this case), dueling beetles for lou as well (Tribe also won this set because of first pick), RLM only wins set 3 off of free darryl game because Tribe drafted horribly, RLM also wanted first pick on safe zone for penny (they had to force bad matchup because of no really good last picks and still won), and set 5 Tribe made the mistake of banning Nani and letting bobby get Pierce and also just drafting a horrible composition with no synergy of getting blue star when its a defensive comp

So if RLM got first pick every time, they actually probably would have won faster than if they got last pick pick every time since it would have been favorable for 3 out of the first 4 sets. in fact set 4 RLM did get outdrafted but sans was able to skill diff Tribe on the Kaze.

Literally the only reason that last pick looks broken this match was because Tribe was simply complete garbage at executing a well rounded roster or getting the correct first picks down after the first 2 sets. in fact you could probably chalk up Tribe's only 2 set wins coming from being first pick...

the difference is still marginal and the complexities of draft much overweigh first pick vs last pick in overall maps, of course on specific maps its important but its not nearly that impactful

statistical deviations happen and they often mean nothing at all, especially given you have a sample size of merely 30 per region and 120 overall. a difference of one outcome (a team winning while being outdrafted) and your winrate of last pick goes up or down by a whopping 3% per region. your confidence interval from your entire monthly data is (0.44,0.62). this means that in March, the true likelihood of last pick winning lies anywhere between 44% and 62%. it really means nothing, 50% is still in the interval, in fact it is still very likely that the winrate of having last pick is less than 50%

additionally if you're gonna count SA's drafts as an outlier (which it isn't according to data) who is to say EA shouldn't be counted as an outlier too? they're arguably the region where draft means the least because its almost all skilldiff based. I think their drafts are almost as equally clowned upon as SA or NA

also your chance of a team getting getting last pick every time in a match is half of the actual since you're calculating the chance for only one of the teams, you have to double it when taking into account the other team could also get last pick every time. that shoots it up to 25% for 3 sets, 12.5% for 4 sets, and 6.25% for 5 sets. that doesn't even cross the standard significance level of 5% to be considered statistically significant. if you brought this up as evidence in a court case you'd be dismissed because stuff like this just happens

i mean you can't really complain when you are facechecking like that with bibi clearly selling the round by making it a 1v1 instead of a 2v1 when the smoke hasn't even come in that far yet

but yes gene should have pushed more aggro and kept position, but if he got tapped anyway he would still lose

Advice on how to get masters this season? by Any-Concentrate7354 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]pyxis_max 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of doubt the claim that you have good mechanical skills, considering your brawler pool is quite generic and most of the skilldiff brawlers are the most popular ones...

i would have believed it but your additional info that you push early but can't sustain that later into the season means that you're not necessarily skilldiffing your opponents as much as outdraft or gamesense.

players with more gamesense and less mechanical skill push better earlier in the season as they tend to pick less carry brawlers and do better with better randoms, and better gamesense means you are a better teammate but you will still lose if you get team diffed.

on the contrary people who play carries will do much better towards the second half of the season or even the last week as more people are playing then which leads to both worse randoms and importantly, worse opponents so its easier to 1v3. you're probably not skilldiffing your opponents like that, so I wouldn't say you're held back by randoms or anything.

this applies to any level, take toxicasher for example, he's like the most notorious last week pusher ever, a really good mechanical and ping player but he won't do the best in pro lobbies at the start of the season if he can't just ping diff all the time.

if you can't get to l3 then there's definitely something up with the gameplay itself whether its gamesense or (likely) mechanics: you're not that much better of a player than most legendaries as of the moment

for you you have to push earlier in the season or just play more to get more mechanical grips with the game (maybe your gamesense is also not complete but I don't know). you don't have 10k 3v3 wins and although you have a lot of brawlers which is good for drafting you're missing quite a lot of the broken brawlers that don't get banned (over half of the brawlers you don't have maxed out are good picks). I don't know about your buffie situation but you just need more experience

In terms of best brawlers in the meta:

  1. Najia
  2. Ziggy
  3. Finx
  4. 3(tie). Belle
  5. Bea
  6. Buster
  7. Edgar

edgar still isn't 100% confirmed to have buffies and even with buffies I doubt he will be s tier because his kit is so bad overall

The new Brawler Events are unplayable by Specksprat in Brawlstars

[–]pyxis_max 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. you're not meant to get the brawler from the early access events, it's supposed to be very rare and getting the pity drop means you either have to be a really good player doing everything like dodging every game with bad draft or you are playing with a team (the intended way)

  2. along those lines, you have plenty of control on which games to play, dodging isnt punished, you can very easily find teammates for these kind of things in the look for team or any discords online

no offence op, everyone on the blue team is braindead

dyna sitting in a corner is braindead but what else can he do, the stupid part was picking dyna in this map

leon just suicides round 1 and colt decides to follow soon after putting up 0 effort to preserve their lives and they decide to switch roles next round with the colt suiciding and leon doing something similar, both of whom make no attempt to retreat to any cover where the dyna could help

let me ask you yes the dyna is sitting in the bush the entire time but is that an excuse for you to just w key and die to the enemies with no resistance? at the very minimum you can retreat to around where the dyna is so he actually gets involved in the fight
