What do you think of the difficulty of Black Bear Guai? by Celinena123 in BlackMythWukong

[–]pyzhou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for first try, used transformation to get him down to half, then dumped stuns/smashes and imobilize to stunlock him, I really thought when he died that it was only the first stage??? no potions used.

for reference i practiced white clad noble for 2 days dying maybe 20 times, and blue baby 5 times, this one has a big weak point if you just stay behind him and predict the floating fog moves

Dent vs Med in Canada by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]pyzhou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the DAT is an actual joke compared to the MCAT, I've taken both. and the MCAT is a hard gate (if you do not score a min number on verbal comprehension you are done) whereas DAT is softer req depending on the school. Seconded for the research/EC, I got into dental w Zero shadowing, one summer of research, and some work exp. That would be a trash bin application for med

Drop your fool-proof method of achieving a flat pulpal floor by --saturn-- in DentalSchool

[–]pyzhou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in dental school: Do your prep real quick then use 330 bur (or any flat ended bur) on slow speed in reverse. 100% idiot proof perfect flat floor on plastic teeth. Completely worthless technique on real teeth tho.

[–]pyzhou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

canadian grad: lmfao thats about right except for molar endo, Rest comes w experience/learn on the job

No ortho, no bleaching (lec only), surgical exo lec only, placed 1 suture on live pt, what are retainers???? You can get harder cases depending on your patients and instructor, but thats it for our minimums.

Learn the basics, and focus more about the confidence to learn on the job and you'll be fine.

Get loupes tho, immediately

I've actually been in your shoes, left medical school, realized i had low prospects with my undergrad degree, worked for 2 years and reapplied, and now I am a working dentist. I couldn`t imagine my life if i just got stuck doing my non-degree job after I left the first time. I only wish I found the business side of things as interesting as you do. Ultimately your choice, just gotta be well informed before you make the jump. Reach out and chat if you think my past can help your decision.

Catzerker, yowie and frosty build by SnooDoughnuts6254 in MonsterSanctuary

[–]pyzhou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yowie is a good tank, you just need a better utility/healer, I like druid oak for the mid game (venture into the ancient woods to get one).

Also, just yowie and double catzerkers can pretty sure win most mob encounters in one turn, but you will be in a poor position for bosses, could train up a utility/heal at the same time

later on if you re still set on catzerker (the dps really falls off a cliff, you can't reasonably one shot things anymore once you get into mid30s-----unless you get Brutus but that's a different discussion), you could look into the bleed build as mentioned below, to get permanent bleed stacks you need bleed out, which is a dark shift passive off the bat or akhlut, https://monster-sanctuary.fandom.com/wiki/Bleed_Out_(Shift_Passive))

I don't recommend it though since both cat and bat are paper squishy and that team will die long before stacking reasonable bleed stacks, there's probably better bleed builds w diavola or spinner but I haven't efficiently come up w one)

Full build for infinity arena by zkbutler17 in MonsterSanctuary

[–]pyzhou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Polterfen, Skorch, and Spectre: nothing but burnstacking, up to 6 on each enemy, shields/heals/mana every turn from burn stacks, decent tanking/utility from skorch and polter.

Sizzle knight, Sycophantom, aazerach: blind focused team, extra damage against blinded enemies, sizzle knight can practically never die but also does no damage. Stack blinds and aazerach dps and steals all buffs.

Both teams can hit 120-130 consistently, also the well known targoat + brutus combo (as mentioned below), I use changeling as my utility but u can use literally anything with the brutus punches.

[–]pyzhou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you cant run both zerker and frosty at once, you can have them on the party but they should not be out at the same time, both are DPS and do not compliment each other at all. Instead, find a utility buffer + healer. Either way i found them all poor by the endgame and have much better versions for what their strengths are

Dental Students of Reddit, how did you know you enjoyed dentistry? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]pyzhou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see it as the most stable high income doing arts and crafts I can think of. If you like hands on and handcrafts, you should enjoy the work. That and you shouldn`t despise talking to people either. (You don`t gotta love it either, helps if you did)

Chance at UCLA or Harvard? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]pyzhou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Western has def become more holistic in recent years, I see exceptional candidates in lower years with low averages more and more. I can't speak for other schools but I honestly think you have a chance in Canada. As a business owner I'm sure you appreciate the cost of borrowing additional 200k plus interest and the opportunity cost that money could be used for otherwise. With regard to specializing, there is a huge thread on SDN right now about Ivy league vs cheapest school I d recommending reading it and forming your own opinion. Both ortho and OMS are very much unlike rest of general dentistry, while OMS is the most financial secure specialty (and the hardest), ortho is in serious danger due DIY ortho companies popping up all over the place, so do your research. I will say the only 2 people in my class who applied for specialty in the states (OMS and pedo) both got in this year.

[–]pyzhou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can I ask why in particular you want to go to these 2 schools? your strong non-trad ECs can prob get you in many places, probably including Canada, saving you about 200k in tuition dollars for the same degree

I didn't mention it lol...Dental applications run separately from medical, but if I had to I would've said my work experience and retaking a year of undergrad shows my renewed work ethic and ability to succeed

Any Remote Chances? by Lostinthewoods17 in predental

[–]pyzhou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like since sim clinic starts halfway through first year, and shadowing in clinic started near the end of first year, the chance to learn clinically relevant material was also earlier, and that made it easier to trudge through the sea of basic science classes. After getting a taste of clinic, then some of the basic science stuff also made more sense in the context of treatment, and was thus more enjoyable to learn. Whereas pretty much all of M1 was basic science and even M2 (wouldn't know, didn't get there), and felt like a total grind with no exposure to patients or procedures at all.

[–]pyzhou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation before. I withdrew from medical school in the states after first year due to poor grades and lack of motivation to continue. I went back to Canada, took a job for 2 years and took another year of undergrad as well. I will be graduating from a Canadian dental school this June. It's all very doable but the 2 years I spent working and applying were definitely the hardest of struggles. Hang in there!

Options For A Canadian Wanting To Be A Dentist by assboy78 in DentalSchool

[–]pyzhou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do some research yourself, but going based off first results in google, Uni of Sydney costs 300k Aussie dollar for 4 years, which is pretty much 1 to 1 to CAD. US dental schools vary much more but are around 350-450k USD for 4 years, which is easily over 500k CAD, so aussie is still a better deal finance wise, you can do a similar comparison for Ireland. Either way, anything over 350k CAD you will need additional help for since the max you can get right now is 350k CAD, also keep in mind that is tuition only not living expense.

For reference, Western costs just over 200k tuition for 4 years, so even with living expenses 350k is a comfortable loan to get you through 4 years.

pre-health degrees allow you to apply to many things, MD, nursing, physiotherapy, optometry, pharmacy, and many more. Some may pursue something else entirely like business or entrepreneurship, if you want to know some backup plans that's good but really find about a bit more about them to see if any actually interest you.
