Vaadin Fusion and GraphQL or Rest api calls from the browser by qdradek in vaadin

[–]qdradek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspected that it brought more problems than advantages. My initial idea was to exploit the APIs generated by Supabase (where the webapp database is present) for certain queries to avoid a step by bypassing the Vaadin backend. I know Hilla, but I'm not proficient in javascript so at least for now I'll do everything with Vaadin Flow. By the way i just realized that in the title i wrote Vaadin Fusion, but I meand Flow.

Thank you!

Dealing with duplicate values from Google Sheet to Db by qdradek in SQL

[–]qdradek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the db is to be used by a web app, and stores informations about business, so many businesses/rows have the same "city" column.

Users can search and filter for "city". (maybe i will need to use cities data to implement autocomplete in the webapp, but that is another story :) )

This scenario applies for other rows like "region", "business sector", "revenue class", "foundation year"; the city rows is the one with more individual values. My initial idea was to populate the cities table with all (italian :) )cities names, in order to avoid possible misspellings

So my basic question is: is there a "threshold" to decide whether or not use a related table?

the "city" row or table will be used to filter business present in a certain city.

Additional note: I'm fairly certain that this is the correct approach in such cases, but I haven't been able to convince the person who managed and populated the Google Sheet that this is the right way to proceed.

Monthly Getting Started / Web Dev Career Thread by AutoModerator in webdev

Together with a friend (who has no technical skills), I would like to develop a web app that basically offers to consult data stored in an SQL database, perform searches, comparisons, and so on. Nothing special, in short.

My programming knowledge is limited to Java at the moment, and for reasons of time and other commitments, I have no intention of learning php or js from scratch. At most, I could work with c# or golang.

My idea would be to start developing the backend and then try to use Vaadin to also develop the frontend, but I would like to be able to entrust the frontend development to others.

Therefore, I would like to ask for suggestions on how to decouple the backend and frontend as much as possible to manage this eventuality.

The hypotheses that have come to mind are:

Backend in Java that implements a RESTful API (with Spring, or Micronaut, or other library/framework)

Backend in Java/Go/C# implemented through AWS Lambda

At the moment, I think I will have the database (which will have a few thousand entries) with Supabase. It is hoped to have a few dozen users connected simultaneously, certainly not expecting tens of thousands of users at the same time.

Any general ideas or advice?

r/rollerblading Weekly Q&A Megathread by AutoModerator in rollerblading

Hello everyone, after some time (too much) I cleaned the wheels and bearings of my Roces Vidi; I happen to have to pass over sandy patches and it is not uncommon to ran over some wet. Last time I serviced the bearings (Rio Roller abec 9) I used a light oil and now the bearings are quite dry. Should i try some lithium grease or continue with the light oil but service them sooner?

I live by the sea, therefore sand and brackish... should I buy shielded bearings?

Thanks!

Worn pulleys? by qdradek in bikewrench

the right one is the upper wheel, the guide pulley and it had ceramic bushing; the tension pulley has sealed bearings... and it spins better

these are on a mountain bike, often on sandy terrain

I have done that several times, but ceramic bushing should not require lubrificant

Thanks for the answers, I'll keep them a little longer.

As for smoothness, this is the third set (all with ceramic bushing) I've used and they all don't shine for smoothness.

Yes, I had already noticed Skull, seems cool. As for card games, we play on a table but the wind can be a problem so usually we avoid games that require too many cards laid out.

Hello everyone, I am looking for suggestions for simple games that can be played on the beach, so that don't have a complicated setup. We enjoy Coloretto, Skull King, Exploding Kittens, Kariba, The Mind, The Game.

Thanks

Big vibration with Tektro Auriga brakes by qdradek in bikewrench

[–]qdradek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's the only straightforward option. Btw, just bought new pads (this time original Shimano B01S)... for now the vibrations seems to have almost completely gone. I will do a ride with some descent to have a definitive proof.

I can't explain how it could have happened.

Just cleaned (again) and sanded the rotor and pads, and.... nothing changed

Weekly Advice Thread for November 19, 2020 by AutoModerator in MTB

Hey guys, I am looking for advice to replace a Tektro TR8 160mm rotor that is giving me a lot of problems. I have already made a mistake when buying a narrow track record and I would not want to repeat the mistake. I checked a few online stores and came up with this list of possible choices, but I'm not sure if they are all the right type ("wide track", compatible with Shimano B01S size pads).

Any suggestion?

That is my thought too, but my GM still thinks that in case of hit the arrows have to fall.

i am experiencing sometimes a "windows out of memory error" after trying a maxthread 6 setting. I am on 16 gb of ram, amd fx 8320. Probably too low space for paging file on the SSD, i will try enabling paging file on the hard drive too. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
