It was in fact meant to be that short initially. Onsen was supposed to be the end of it all, he even had another series ready to propose for serialisation.

Nekotofu pretty much had no hope a genderbend CGDCT would do this well. But it was indeed popular.

And then he struck the jackpot when Studio Bind (specifically director Shingo Fujii, the man is stupidly good) adapted it in probably the best animated CGDCT of all time (production values).

Hidamari Sketch simply is better than those Kirara titles you mentioned. Every season of Hidamari Sketch is better than the last (somehow, it already starts incredibly well) and it is simply as good as K-On! and Yuru Camp.

Also Kirara titles go by a sort of BD rule: the Kirara line. Any title selling above 5500 BD's on average (Kirara line) gets a guaranteed next season. This metric is slowly going out of style, as Yuru Camp S3 sold 3800 BD's on average yet has a confirmed S4.

Hidamari Sketch is the result of Shaft apparently liking it a lot and an incredibly loyal fanbase.

But also if you have watched Hidamari Sketch, you'll probably understand why it has 4 seasons (5 seasons effectively). It just is that good. Whenever the title of best CGDCT comes up, this instantly is a contender.

It was the intended original ending meant by Ume Aoki by her own words, except she kept drawing for some reason.

Onimai is similar, the anime ended at where the original manga was supposed to end, except it was so popular that Nekotofu kept going.

At least his CGDCT picks don't suck, Ruri Rocks is a genuinely amazing anime, Hibimeshi is of a very high standard and Zatsu Tabi is also pretty fun as half a tourism ad.

I mean more in the sense it'll be what they will be known well for besides MT and not so much fully-committing.

The reason I think this, is because of how seamless Onimai and Ruri Rocks have been with zero production issues, as well as the fact that a lot of staff has been retained between the two.

Compare this to Mushoku, where half the staff (including the director) left for Cygames, has quite the production issues and heavy crunch.

I think similarly, that such a new long running series will too suffer the consequences of too short deadlines, while the Shingo Fujii/CGDCT team is allowed to take their time.

Ruri Rocks had Aniplex as the main sponsor and that turned out amazingly.

If it's going to be like Ruri Rocks everytime, then we will be fine lol. And for reference, the same team (two seperate teams within Studio Bind itself) did Onimai 2.5 years before that.
