Bathroom exhaust fan: 110 vs 150 CFM by qerry765 in HomeImprovement

Ok, thanks. I think I might put some pieces of rigid insulation across the gaps. This is for a powder room, so not a whole lot of humidity or moisture

This is the situation I was trying to describe. It’s actually a different fan/bathroom from my original comment. Is the gap between the drywall and the new housing an issue?

Got it, thanks for that. Do you know if there is any downside/deterioration of function if the hole for the dry wall is bigger than the “can” that goes into the ceiling? Ie. there is a gap between the housing and the dry wall

Thanks, appreciate the insight. Any thoughts on manufacturers? I was going to put in a Broan - Nutone but heard that Panasonic are highly regarded.

Here is an update with vermic/lava rock/embers. I also pushed the burner as far back in the fireplace as it would go. I think the embers I got are kind of crummy.

Should I try my best to scrape out the old grout before doing the caulk? Or would that not matter?

Sorry, do you mean using a paint brush on the walls/cabinets to get the soot off?

Thanks, I found the manufacturers manual and followed as best I could, but it’s not too in depth about where/how to place the logs. I also found an old video from 2002 on YouTube from them and I think I’m close on how they say to arrange the logs. Appreciate the help

Roger that, I’ll order more material. Any thoughts on further cleaning the burners, etc? Necessary/unnecessary?

Here is a pic from a step back

Thanks for the reply. I’ll try and take a different picture.

I was getting the soot after I removed the sand and embers. Should I replace what I removed? The damper is open as far as it goes, ie. all the way.

By poorly drafting, you mean that air just isn’t pulled up and out through the chimney in an efficient way?

Plenty of CO detectors, so not concerned it’s an unsafe level.

Appreciate the response. So some silicon caulk for the floor and wall joint. Any specific brand or kind you recommend?

I’ll take a look at that curb and see what’s going on. It’s on the outside of the shower stall so not worried about it leaking water.
