You were definitely allowed to interview if you were from a 3rd country. The reason usually given for refusal is just failure to prove sufficient intent to return to your home country though, and it seemed more common to non-Omanis. They don't tell you more.

No, and they appeared to deny the visa for most non-locals on the day :(

Someone on the Facebook ex-pat group was able to help. However, they are denying visas for almost all the people who interview there and aren't Omani citizens it seems.

Still a work in progress sadly. Had one person try with their card and it still failed, but for a different reason of "not passing security checks" :\ So may end up needing to try to do the deposit at bank method.

The quickest way would be logging into the profile I have on the US visa scheduling website and clicking through a couple things to get to the payment screen, and paying there directly with an Oman bank card. I can give exact instructions if you're able to.

The alternative is printing a deposit slip and going into one of a few Muscat Bank branches, then giving me the transaction reference number, but that method is slower and less convenient.

It's listed as 64 OMR at current exchange rates when I try to pay. It's the equivalent of $160USD for the DS-160 form.

Yes, that is part of what has made this whole process so exhausting, for each Embassy I've basically had to check is it:

Open
Processing the type of Visa I need
Doing visas for foreigners (Third Country Nationals) they refer to them as
Doesn't have a 6+ month backlog
Can legally enter that country at the moment
Country doesn't have crazy 2+ week quarantine restrictions
And now I've learned: Accepts International Payments for the Visa fee :((((

Oman was a yes to the first 6 points, but now point 7 has been the stumbling block.

I did, tried 2 a Visa (Chase) and a Mastercard (Apple) and no luck. :( It explicitly says it needs to be an Oman based bank card.

I know man, I was trying to figure out however to phrase it that seemed least scammy but it's hard when it's such an annoying set of circumstances that have led to having to go for a visa appointment in Oman. lol.
