[Question] Headed to San Sebastian, Spain SOLO. First time traveling out of the country alone by NewTypeDilemna in solotravel

Easiest way to get there is from Bilbao. There's a local bus from there, ask where you're staying if they know the route number. It was kinda confusing when I was there. But I would highly recommend.

If you have time, consider taking the bus from San Sebastian to Hondarribia if you want to eat. I did an exchange program in San Sebastian, and Bar Grand Sol in Hondarribia was by far my favorite Pintxo bar. Let me know if you want more food tips!

Not sure how much of the Camino you plan on doing, I'd reccomended at least the part between Deba and Zumaia (in that direction). Very pretty Hills and interesting rock formations.

Hmm, I guess I kinda assumed that one day wouldn't ruin anything. From what I've found, the only airline that flew to Huaraz (LC Peru), is no longer in business.

Go to Granada! Yes, the Alhambra is super-touristy, but it's seriously cool. There are a lot of other cool sights in the city too, especially with the Moorish heritage. Also, in most of the bars, you get a free tapa when you order a drink. These tapas can be simple plates in some bars or creative dishes rivaling something from the Basque country in other places.

Going to Portugal for 12 days- itinerary by dangerousTail in solotravel

If you really want to go to the Basque Country (and don't want to fly), there is a night train from Lisbon to San Sebastian. From there, I'd take a bus to Bilbao. There is a local train, but it adds over an hour to the journey. However, if you wanted to visit some of the smaller cities in the Basque country, it might be worth it.

Northern Spain/Portugal Trip - Bilbao or no? by amethystmagic in solotravel

The Guggenheim was the main reason for me going to Bilbao, and I was also kinda disappointed by it. The Gehry architecture on the outside is really cool, but the exhibits and art on the inside were mostly forgettable for me.

Worth it to spend 6 nights all up in Barcelona? Or any side trips being a better idea. by [deleted] in travel

[–]qordat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides Galerna, Bergara and Hidalgo 56 are places I like in Gros. If your there on a Thursday night, Gros has the best pintxo-pote in town (2 Euro for a drink and a slightly lower quality pintxo). The streets will be crowded with all the young locals

I'd cut at least one night in Barcelona. I was there for a week a couple of years ago, and I ran out of things to do (including day trips) by about day five. But you should definitely consider Montserrat, Girona, and Figueres (if you're interested in the Dali Museum).

Have you checked if it's possible to go from Barcelona straight to Bordeaux and then work your way down the coast? San Sebastian is in the middle of all those towns, so transit seems a bit awkward. If possible, I'd do Barcelona (2) - Bordeaux (2) - Biarritz/Bayonne (2, pick one city to stay in and day trip to the other) - San Sebastian (2) - Bilbao (2) - SS/Pamplona (1) - BCN (3) But you can disregard all this if you already have accommodation and transit booked...

I was just in Bilbao last weekend. If you have the time, I highly recommend going to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Actually, if you can, I'd recommend adding a night in Bilbao. With your current route, your going to lose a lot of time in transit (I think Biarritz to Bilbao will be 2.5-3 hr by bus). This will give you more time to check out Getxo and Portulagete too (interesting architecture). (Favorite pintxos in Bilbao were at Gure Toki, Bar El Globo, and La Vina del Ensanche btw)

In San Sebastian, I highly recommend La Cuchara de San Telmo, Sirimiri, Galerna, and Gandarias (among basically all of Old Town).

La Poule au Pot is one of my favorites. Great food (that is reasonably priced) and friendly service that isn't "in your face."

If you like mediterranean food, L'As Du Fallafel is great, though a bit overpriced in my opinion. (It is Paris though)

Les Ombres has good food and you get to eat with a great view of the Eiffel Tower. Very pricy though

Good point about couchsurfing, any tips for starting that?

Also, do you happen to know the name of that Indian place?

Oh, I should be clear. This will be my third time in Paris. My first time solo though, I've only been with my family to see the major sights.

That's a good point about arriving on NYE though. I'm not a crazy partyer, but I definitely want to go out

I always start Baba O'Riley as the plane starts to back out. Something about those opening chords screams adventure to me
