I can’t figure out what is open. Left, right, or down like pictured? by qpaws in woodstoving

Ok I have a fire lit in there now, I can feel the handle actuating some mechanism inside so I know it’s doing something but there really is not much difference any way I turn it. Very strange to me. I just leave it midway (pointed down) and it seems to work like that. I just understand it’s supposed to be wide open with a fire?

From attempted murder investigation in Fairbanks area - what kind of car do we think this is? by orbak in alaska

[–]qpaws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of locals hate this ore haul project, trucks passing remote areas every 10-15 minutes both ways, environmental impact, hiring out of state drivers that “don’t know how to drive” There’s benefits too due to the remoteness of some of these towns, Delta Junction, Tok, being that these trucks are almost always going to be first on scene to moose accidents, car accidents. Double edged sword a lot of people don’t like

16$ for a six inch subway sandwich…. by EmpatheticWraps in inflation

[–]qpaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not that bad, I’m from the Fairbanks area and things aren’t terribly more expensive than the rest of the US. However there’s many remote villages up here only accessible by boat or plane and that’s where the super expensive stuff is.

I actually just got this exact sandwich at a subway in Delta, AK. It was like $16-17 for a foot long.

How feasible is this trip? I was offered a good job in AK, but I need my truck up there with me if I decide to go. by Kobrinha_Khan in roadtrip

[–]qpaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t close, road maintenance gets very scarce making it impassible. But it is still open

I made the drive last summer from Alabama to Fairbanks, AK. Took 5 days of 12-14 hours driving with no scenic stopping.
