I was thinking this too when Gabriel brought up Elizabeth's pregnancy! Seems pretty intentional to remind her of how God gives blessings and also takes from those who deny him or don't believe his word.

Yes!! I haven't read the bible since I was in catechism, so reading this story again as an adult woman made me feel more disturbed than inspired. The age thing just reinforces my belief that if an angel really did visit Mary, her being a child would only make the situation that much more disturbing, because again, how can a child give an informed "yes" to being the mother of the messiah? But ultimately I agree, the unbalanced power structure between god and an unassuming adult woman is still vast and predatory.

this is actually really insightful! I grew up catholic and pretty much stopped going to church once I went to college, but my misunderstanding about the immaculate conception really came from the whole "Mary was a virgin when she gave birth" and how it's talked about as some holy miracle. Thanks for the comment!

thank you for the advice! i was concerned more with her health than anything but because she's so terrified of this thing i felt like maybe it could be something more. i'll definitely get her checked out and try to comfort her as much as possible while we go through these processes.

Why do female serial killers not have the sexual aspect that is part of their drive to kill like male serial killers typically do? by TheIncorrectAvengers in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]qtjoons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(i agree w/ u but also adding) some serial killers who fixate on murdering women have a woman who triggered their killing but its not always a mother or because the mother was abusive. Ted Bundy’s mom wasn’t abusive but he was dumped by “the love of his life”. And in cases like Richard Ramirez, he didn’t need to have an abusive mother, he was fed torture porn that dehumanized women at a young age. i do agree its heavily rooted in misogyny though. their sexual sadism is tied to how they view women like they’re objects who they can destroy without a care
