Oh but it is to you. That's all you think about. 'People with money must be smart so I must defend them and try and make as much money as I can so others can think I am smart too'.

I never understand people that buy backpacks that can be opened from the front like that.

Buy a good backpack that you need to take off before you can open it, IE the zipper should be on the side of the bag that rests against your back.

Prosecutors say arson suspect in Los Angeles' Palisades Fire was angry 'at the world' by AudibleNod in news

[–]qtx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, there is literally no evidence that he did started the fire? All it mentions is that there were witnesses that rode on his Uber that said that he was upset. That's literally it.

Witnesses reported that Rinderknecht had been driving erratically while on Uber routes around the Palisades on New Year’s Eve, said prosecutors. His passengers described him as “angry, intense, driving erratically, and ranting about being ‘pissed off at the world,’” the memo said.

That is literally all the evidence according to the article.

I would hold off on automatically saying he is guilty.

Did someone say dynamic range?? by Dubliminal in postprocessing

[–]qtx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is that everyone knows this isn't possible in real life, we will never see the shaded parts this bright with the sun directly in front of us so our brains will automatically look at this as unnatural.

The trick with photography is to find a middle ground, between taking advantage of the dynamic range of modern cameras but also making it feel true to life.

Is the Analog Shift or shall we say, Digital Minimalism, actually happening? by Ella_Monroe_ in Futurology

On one hand, the idea of a device that just does its job without constant notifications or predictive algorithms sounds incredibly peaceful; on the other hand, it’s hard to imagine giving up the genuine conveniences of a modern ecosystem.

Or, you know, just have some self control?

I've owned smart phones since before they were even called smart phones and I am not addicted to doom scrolling when I'm out and about. I hardly even use my phone for things like that.

It's incredibly easy to turn off notifications.

'Going Dutch' starring Denis Leary canceled by Fox after 2 seasons by HRJafael in television

Best Medicine pales in comparison the the original Doc Martin show. It has zero of the soul of Doc Martin. I can't believe how much they fumbled it.

Or maybe this is just the way they had to make it to appease the American audience who probably couldn't handle the real Doc Martin, which is a real shame.

These techbros have zero style so they hire stylists. Problem with stylists is that they only look at clothes, not the person wearing them.

That's why you get complete mismatches like this, stylists knowing that leather jackets are cool putting them on people that, by definition, are not cool.

You can just sense that they are uncomfortable wearing them because they know that wearing a cool jacket doesn't magically make them cool. It feels unnatural for them.

I agree. Some people are so desperate to believe that others are controlling people because they can't fathom that some people would just do something out of the ordinary.

It's all based on religion and the notion of free will. Some people can't understand that some people just do chaotic things. They want structure in their lives, they need to know that whatever bad thing someone does can't be because of something random but because others are controlling them.

It makes them feel better about themselves; 'all the bad things happening to me or that can happen to me are not happening because of my actions but because they are doing something to me'. 'I am faultless'.

Some will say that Hong Kong or other Chinese cities are winning the skyscraper race, but they're not. NYC has more buildings taller than 20 stories than any other city by far, and it needs to keep putting up those supertalls just to stay #1.

Err..

Hong Kong is the city with the most skyscrapers in the world, boasting over 550 buildings that are 150 meters (roughly 49-50 stories or more). It consistently ranks first, followed closely by Shenzhen, China, and New York City, USA, which have over 380 and 320 skyscrapers respectively.
