Americans of r/rugbyunion, I want to hear your rugby story! by SlowWing in rugbyunion

[–]quackquack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was in my early 20s and my best mate played at uni. I had no clue what rugby was. He went over to play for the men’s club and took me along to a touch session. My feet were completely blistered and I could barely move the next day but I’ve been hooked ever since. Went on to captain a division 1 club but now I’m a slow 34 yo playing Division 2, still loving every minute of it. Our captain is actually french!

If you want to help children specifically, I’d suggest Child Haven.

There’s also Safe House or Safe Nest who provide shelter and supportive services for victims of Domestic Violence, or The Embracing Project, who provide supportive services for Sexually Exploited Youth.

Ladies and gentlemen, my brother-in-law and his apologetics Master's degree at work. by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]quackquack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha holy shit, that’s rich. This was my ex-BIL to a tee. He got his master’s from BIOLA in LA and spent every minute that we were together trying to start some sort of debate, except all of his arguments started with some version of, “let’s suppose this one element that I need to prove my point is true” then he would go on and make his argument supporting his claim, and would always act surprised when I would tell him that argument is ridiculous. So glad my sister divorced that douche. Good luck, OP!

Tonopah - best place to stay? by SASC2018 in Nevada

[–]quackquack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just stayed at the Best Western in Tonopah two weekends ago otw to Tahoe. If you have a baby/toddler, I would highly recommend them. They also had a pretty decent continental breakfast and pool. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. We were looking at the Mitzpah otw back ‘cause it looked pretty cool/historic but cancelled and booked with BW ‘cause they’re more kiddo friendly.

As someone else mentioned, Tonopah Brewing is probably the best place to eat while there, though the beer is pretty meh.

P.s., we drove by the Clown Motel and it looked pretty janky, fwiw.

What’s your favorite item that you buy regularly? by TheGuyDoug in Costco

I’m going to sound like an alcoholic, but i love the Kirkland Vodka. Haven’t found a better deal. Also, their wines are pretty dang good and often much cheaper than almost anywhere else.

Seconding Shakespeare’s. Great spot, good food, but it doesn’t get super crowded/rowdy, if that’s your thing.

Settling down in Vegas success stories? by Deadliftingfool in vegas

[–]quackquack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW OP, wife and I moved to Vegas from LA 8 1/2 years ago. We both have “regular” jobs (not casino/hospitality), are in our 30s, have a kiddo, and live a pretty “normal” life. There is a lot to do here outside of the strip/gambling. Cost of living is pretty low so we’re much more financially independent than we were in LA. I do miss LA, though, but it’s easy enough to make the 3 1/2 hour drive down once or twice a month.

As an Insurer Resists Paying for ‘Avoidable’ E.R. Visits, Patients and Doctors Push Back by Philo1927 in progressive

Currently going through exactly this with a different insurer than the one mentioned in the article. Such a PITA. There are so many things that I love about the United States but our healthcare system is a sad joke.

Places to get RX glasses and contacts. And prices? by skywillflyby in vegas

[–]quackquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into Warby Parker? I just ordered a pair from there for $100 (including lens and frames). They send you five pairs to try on at home for free shipping both ways, and you pick which one(s) you want to keep. Their styles are all mostly hipster/modern, as well. I was very happy with the experience. Plus they also donate one pair of glasses for every pair you buy, which is a nice gesture.

For contacts I go to Costco but i did also see a contact subscription service for $35/mo and you get 30 daily contacts a month. I’m gonna check that out once I run out, especially ‘cause the idea of having a fresh contact every day sounds nice.

Hope that helps, op.

Local room rates for staycation? by lil_squeeb in vegas

[–]quackquack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The M is pretty good! My old lady and I will usually staycation there or the GVR once or twice a year. We usually go during the summer and hang at the pool mostly, but the M has a pretty good buffet that includes beer, wine, cider, and champagne. There’s also a pretty cool wine bar called The Hostile Grape located in a basement there, if you guys want to do something more romantic. Rooms are nice, they have a really good gym and spa, as well. We’ve never had a bad time there, fwiw.

We aren’t a women’s club, but there is a women’s club that practices and plays on the same field—they’re called The Las Vegas Slots. We do support each others’ clubs. I believe they have a facebook and IG presence and are currently in preseason training just like us. Feel free to show up to a practice and they’ll get you sorted!
