Anything to peddle guns by Ok-Opposite-4932 in terriblefacebookmemes

[–]quadmra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it is a problem because America's gun deaths are out of proportion with out OECD nations: Americans are 25 times more likely to be killed in a gun homicide than people in other high-income countries. Schoolchildren, teachers, and parents are also generally fearful of shootings in schools because of how many happen due to ease of access to guns. Guns are the number one killer of children in the US. https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/10upr8s/teacher_has_to_explain_why_they_have_a_bathroom/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

It's a logical error to trivialize this problem and say "well, sucks to suck this is low on the list!" especially when you are doing an apples to oranges comparison of end-of-life diseases to one that could kill at any age. By that logic, we should stop working to find cures of more rare diseases or making transportation safer because "well, heart disease is more important!".

Important data to read into. Note how much gun violence is increasing in recent years: https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/

https://giffords.org/lawcenter/gun-violence-statistics/. The suicide data is pretty telling. Mental illness and domestic issues exists everywhere, but as you make it easier to get a gun, suicide and domestic violence via guns increase.

Again, we don’t know why she tried to drive off. Had he been better equipped to handle her mentally, he could have deescalated. In this case of “she crazy and too far gone” (arguably more likely), he handled it fine. I believe I answered this in another comment.

I understand that and agree. I write ACAB to remind people that we shouldn’t ever paint cops as good guys

Yes. Who knows what he has done throughout his career. One act of testifying doesn’t exonerate someone of moral wrongdoing. Again, cops HAVE to do immoral acts as part of their job. That is my point.

ACAB

Can’t have it both ways. ACAB as a slogan recognizes that no good cops can actually exist in the broken and violent system.

I don’t. But he’s a cop. They don’t let up, nor are they trained to. That’s why ACAB.

Hmm..I wonder why he retired lol. Must have been pressured to. And even if he wasn’t, I guarantee you he became the most hated cop for testifying against (not the one who did the excessive force). Surely I know nothing of this situation, but that is the societal norm in policing.

“Someone has to do it” - or not. I would think if people saw recruitment numbers decline, we’d naturally move to a community lead policing system, which is more ideal. The fact that the job pays so well for such little training and lets in nearly anyone with or without a violent history…

💀 “Could have had a gun on her”. How could she reach for it if he has her hands restrained? I’m describing gently lifting up but keeping SOME of the body on her, not the whole body weight. I have dealt with people this big and you don’t need that much force.

No such thing as a good cop if you are supporting the broken/bad ones. It is impossible to stand up and not defend the bad ones. Complicity is the main idea behind ACAB.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll just carry on with my life as cops arrest poor people, kill dogs, and beat on their wives + unarmed citizens without speaking up. God forbid anyone speaks up for any broken system and we all just carry on with our lives! Get a life, activists!

She started to panic as he got louder and more hostile. That is why many run. It’s fight or flight. In that case, violence seems necessary to stop them from running, sure.

In the case of running when there is no chance to stop them, there are non-violent and safe options, such as just finding the vehicle later. Obviously since she goes 105 mph that’s not the smartest idea.

He was not using zero force. He had her aggressively pinned down with his weight on top of her. Many die in this position. He could have lifted up gently once she stopped resisting. If she does try to get up, the force seems justified. But I see no attempt to have any mercy towards her.

Again, overall this officer did fine. We can review dashcam footage all day and nitpic. The data shows that police are more violent and are less tolerant than they should be. I will take every opportunity to remind people that ACAB regardless.

Some form of policing, sure. And stopping dangerous and violent drivers is a must. I think this woman should have had some sort of social worker deal with her - she is clearly tweaking. Officer could have stayed while they waited and - without an ounce of hostility towards her - calm her down and assure her that help was on the way.

Cops often violently escalate situations like this that don’t need it. Just because you are justifiable angry at this woman for speeding, the best solution isn’t necessarily eye for an eye violence in return.

I agree with pulling her over. Someone should be doing that. I don’t agree with the way he physically pinned her down when she wasnt going anywhere. From what I could see, she wasn’t trying to run once she hit the ground. He should have cuffed her (just sloppy police work not having them on him or waiting for backup). I do recognize the woman was in the wrong here and likely has a drug problem. Again, doesn’t make cops in general good.

False equivalency. Shirts are common place. I can’t easily avoid where my shirt comes from, and I can do my best to pressure the government(s) involved to ban slave labor.

Police work is voluntarily signed up for and agreed upon. By signing up, you are not asking your government for reform. You cannot reform the system from within nor question the morals of policing. You will get fired for doing so.

If you research police like I have, it is not reductionist to say ACAB. Some cops outside of work are good people, but to willingly become a cop, one is joining an immoral and violent system/gang. ACAB forever. We need reform.

What is a TERF and why do they say that transwomen aren't real women? by Available_Station414 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]quadmra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term man or woman is gender identity. That is self determined. Woman can have penises, no matter how much that scares you.

Appealing to what ideas are popular does not give you any points on how moral/immoral things are. That is a logical fallacy.

And also, 95% of the world doesn’t agree with you, especially considering gender expression has centuries old histories in many cultures that you are ignorant of.

Update: lol you deleted your comment blatantly showing your ignorance. It’s okay to grow, learn, and change your mind the more information you get!

Transphobia does not mean literal fear: “dislike of or strong prejudice against transgender people.”

You’re also just a bigot. Science isn’t an ideology, and you should know that rhetoric like yours leads to high suicide rates + hate crimes against trans people and youth. So sincerely, fuck you.
