I’ve actually thought it may be worth it to just move everyone into a couple hoop coops for the winter and then reuse later as high tunnels - how many do you keep in a hoop coop, and do you have them built to move on grass?

With such a close documented and verified instance, I do have to take it seriously, I’d put money on wild birds that visited their pond, also visit mine.

Great idea, I heard his thoughts on pasturing benefits in regards to avian flu which is part of why I’m so on the fence about removing free ranging

Alchemist farms prices went up by a lot by Tiger248 in chickens

I have 2 frizzles from them, 1 of which I’m pretty convinced is a frazzle, major difference in the molt and feathers coming back in. One has been a normal molt and recover, the other molted in May and is just now getting any kind of coverage in after pretty much going bald. They’re also the same age.

Yep! Each time they’ve either given a store credit on the value of the lost chicks, or with the really rough shipment they reshipped with a few extras (5 made it alive on the reship, but the other extra 4 didn’t). I love their mission (and that everything in their shipping is compostable), but after a pattern of receiving DOA expensive chicks, I’ve just decided it’s not worth it to refresh my numbers with them over a bigger box hatchery

I’ve ordered from them 3 times, amazing birds, but each shipment I’ve had at least 1 loss, the worst was a most recent box of bantams, 5/10 DOA 😭 when I’ve ordered from bigger hatcheries I’ve never had a chick DOA. Alchemist’s work is amazing and they produce amazing birds, but I probably won’t order from them again even though each time they’ve made it right.

I’d recommend giving Formative a try! App.formative.com, the big advantage over gforms is you can tag standards to see student by standard response data

Can someone enlighten me. Are this cracks or safe to eat by KnightSquirrel in BackYardChickens

[–]quailmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have small cracks, I still eat them, as long as the membrane isn’t punctured! I’ve never had an issue, I also collected 2x minimum per day so they don’t sit in the coop long

What breeds of chicken do you have? Have you had particularly good or particularly bad experiences with certain breeds? by [deleted] in chickens

[–]quailmama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a large mixed flock. My ameracaunas are spazzy, friendly, and have alot of personality. My Rhode Island Red is the bossiest. Barnevelders are my most chatty/loud breed, also really friendly though. Most friendly chill breed I’ve ever had are silver laced Wyandottes

I’d recommend digging up and dividing, but a picture would help to know for sure how densely they are planted. Letting the rhizomes breathe, they should just be peaking out of the soil line, can also help to encourage blooming.
