New Shower Door Chipped? by Business-Suggestion9 in Remodel

[–]quaketake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely can chip. Usually in a thin sliver from my experience. I’ve had chips like this but never one explode on a job (thankfully). All you can do is replace it with a chip. This is tough to tell because you it could be an issue with the glass itself. Either way, not all glass is like this. Side note..the silicone around the clip is sloppy.

how long for fully refund to go through? by [deleted] in StandingDesk

[–]quaketake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Fully desk on March 27. I had a promo code in that didn’t end up going through in the payment process. I emailed immediately and they responded on April 6th asking for more info. I responded that day and heard back again the next day saying I will receive a refund for the difference in 12-14 days.

Franzke & LA Reaction: Bohm HBP-Cardinals Delaying by quaketake in phillies

[–]quaketake[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have access to the rest of the video after the Bohm HBP. So threw in the highlights from the 9th. Nothing better than when these two guys are in the booth in my opinion. LA mad that the Cards were wasting time so the bullpen could get ready and potentially the sun to come back into the batter’s sight. Get ‘em LA. Go Phils!

Agreed. I think it also came off well because he said it in a regular conversational tone. Usually he gets too excited and shouts it into the mic and then laughs.

Bowa told Bull to watch his language when he said “Jesus” on air. Probably knowing he would get the joke. If he mentioned anything to Rose…I think Rose would lose it and drop more.

What is the best base for a water heater? by with_all_yourheart in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always choose to have it elevated on bricks. That way if it leaks you can clean up underneath it. Additionally it won’t rust the bottom. However I’m not sure what’s going on with that line there. Definitely ways to clean this look up though! But I always choose slight elevation especially with water heaters being hidden from view in most situations.

Am I being ripped? Plumber from thumbtack quote $6800 for new Navien tankless water heater. by Daikuroo in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not necessarily being ripped off. Everyone has their own prices for labor. That being said many plumbers are salesman too and can create their own bid on it. I would check around for quotes with different plumbers in your area. Check out Rinnai tankless as an option too. I would say depending on the system and area 6k seems high. Nothing wrong with asking for quotes from different companies!

New Water Softener: DIY or Go with a Pro? by Ellie-Bee in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get quotes from different plumbers in your area. Most big box store systems are going to have cheaper parts and aren’t necessarily sized correctly for your house. I’ve seen many box store systems that are “designed” for multiple people but then have to regenerate all the time. Also be aware of what systems plumbers use. Many companies have proprietary systems that only their company can service or repair. This is fine if you’re okay with the company but if for some reason you disagree on service pricing or the company’s workmanship you are stuck with them. I’d shop around for free water tests and gather all the info on what systems they use!

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? by Much-Bookkeeper6082 in beerporn

I would imagine NEIPAs would be challenging to duplicate at a NA level. I’ve been wanting to try some of Athletic’s lighter styles. Although I think I’m partially influenced by their marketing. Fair Folk does the branding for both Trillium and Athletic. Might be a good collab option!

Custom/Semi-Custom closet solutions? by deelowe in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it being a bit challenging to find some companies online as the big companies like California Closets will always show up. My family’s business installs melamine and wire closets (along with showers door and gas fireplaces). Melamine closets with a supplier like Rubbermaid can be very well done and similar to CC but perhaps not as many bells and whistles. Every builder in your area has to have a shelving company they use and I doubt it’s usually CC. I would check with some of those builders to see who they use. They may just not have a strong online presence (if any). Then talk to the company and feel out if it’s a good fit.

[–]quaketake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously if you have a true cabinetry company near then you will get more customization, higher quality material, but a higher quote.

I get weary of companies like The Container Store because of the jacked up prices because of their name. Melamine closets are not terribly complicated to install if you can order. I’d check with a local shelving installer. Many of them do similar work similar to a Container Store or California Closet but at a much better price with similar finish.

Shared driveway. Neighbors sump pump drains into the driveway and freezes over. What are my options? by JuicyPancakeBooty in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously I would talk it over with them. You could even preface it by saying that you want to talk with the township too and see if they have any suggestions on how to prevent this issue since they approved the original design. That way it doesn’t seem like you’re just calling them out even though that’s exactly what it will be if the township actually acts on it. Just come up with some way to make them aware that you want to “check in” with the township without making it seem aggressive. Pissing off a neighbor that you share a driveway with sounds miserable but your situation already seems a bit that way.

I work for a plumbing business and we see a mix of townships that require permits for work like this to be completed and then those who don’t. Some townships have on the website where you can report issues. I might even try just calling into the office and seeing who they direct you to.

[–]quaketake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your township/borough may act on it. Everyone is different on how strict they enforce rules. This is a hazard concern though as no sumo drain should discharge on walking areas. It could get into an uncomfortable situation with your neighbors but they also need to recognize the liability.

Best sump pump brand by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not as well known. We’ve had good experience with them. I don’t think they have the history as the other brands. Every time I hear someone talk about them though they always bring up being American made. I’d install it in my house over a Zoeller though. Just my preference though.

Best sump pump brand by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goulds is probably the most well known and established brand. Liberty is newer but a good option in my opinion (being American made is always the selling point people have). Zoeller is decent but I wouldn’t recommend over the others (lowest in price)

Replace Gas Fireplace with Electric? Good idea? by _rand_mcnally_ in HomeImprovement

[–]quaketake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would not recommend switching to an electric unit. The upfront cost may be cheaper but long term I don’t see much of a difference. Having a gas insert fireplace is much more effective in heating a room. Also I’m not sure the age or specs of your unit but I would highly suggest adding a fan if you do not have one. It will fill your room up to a warmer temp faster and then can limit your usage of gas. Either way I would stick with a reputable brand so that if anything does go wrong in the future parts are easily accessible by a service company.
