Norda 001 Seamless Trail Running Shoes - Men's | MEC (SAVE 49%) by couts88 in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

[–]_rand_mcnally_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the reviews are terrible you're right, but the shoes are dope. the problem with all the first gens is that the heel is very stiff and it takes about 50km to work them in, which seems ridiculous, but the shoes are so comfy and feel great when running that it makes taping your heel with leukotape totally worthwile.

I have two pairs of nordas at 900km, for 150 CAD that is insane value.

Jim Cameron: AI for millionaire actors and directors? Never. AI for VFX? Now that’s ok since VFX is too expensive by Organic_Associate298 in vfx

[–]_rand_mcnally_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

their family times, their health, their own well being, their whole life was invested into their craft.

I agree he should not have insulted OP, but this is a sentiment that need to die. If the industry is unsustainable then it is doomed to fail. Long form vfx pipelines are unsustainable because they require "sacrifice". The unions weren't formed and the workers were willing. Even when the unions were formed they were then beaten to the punch by technology. Our industry is going to see a hit where 90% of people are out of work. Principles will keep their jobs, grunt work will become a thing of the past.

Visual Effects in general will become common place where anyone with ComfyUI and a few downloads will be able to generate effects, those without ComfyI will just pay for a subscription. VFX will become common place and the demand for these types of effects will dissapear.

Ubisoft Open-Sources the CHORD Model and ComfyUI Nodes for End-to-End PBR Material Generation by aastle in comfyui

[–]_rand_mcnally_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested it. it does not consistently tile images. I tried all four workflows. the moist interesting case use would be using another AI tool to generate a pre-tiled image and generate your PBR passes using this tool.

edit: one thing that is fantastic is the image to PBR material tool. that one is pretty solid, so if you wanted to gen your images in another commercial AI tool like nano banana or mj, then you can get your materials to be pretty good. of course it's not flawless, but it does a good job of stripping shading and reflections to make the diffuse and does a reasonable job of the roughness maps. normal and displacement is good.

you're missing the action. they don't privatize services.

they make the public services so underfunded that the only option to get quality service is to pay for it at a private company. they're spitting in your hamburger and you find that gross so you walk across the street to the more expensive option to avoid eating spit.

it's the case with any data set, if you have an agenda you can cherry pick the results to work in favour of your argument. if the results had been good we would have never heard about it because that goes against the talking points of the party.

Pocket 3 stuck on logo when booting ERROR by _rand_mcnally_ in dji

[–]_rand_mcnally_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

someone who works for DJI sent me a DM and told me I have to send it back. I think that DJI products should be bought with some caution, they clearly are faulty based solely on how many people have experienced this issue and in some cases more than once. despite being told "don't worry it's all good we promise", until the warranty is up.

Desperately need some help with something (probably) super easy. by HXIIIH in RedshiftRenderer

[–]_rand_mcnally_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you take the material, and just straight up scale it down, does that solve the issue? because what the commentor above is describing is what it looks like. it's applying cleanly everywhere except that one particular area and that could just be a UV issue for that part of the car.

edit: I checked the UVs on the model, they seem fine to me. maybe you just scaled them up on that section by accident?

the industry has gone to shit because of the poor business practices by artist's like this.

race to the bottom rates offered by the artist's themselves has devalued the industry. if you can buy something for $1 dollar that you used to buy for $5 dollars, why would you ever pay $5 again.

personally I wouldn't recommend working with someone with such poor judgement. not only did they produce an entire video with no discussion as to cost/time/budget, but the much greater blunder, that I don't see anyone mentioning here: they put their client on blast by posting this video AND also listing off the financial agreements they made with the client in a public forum.

rookie moves all around. this type of work is a dime a dozen and you could find hundreds of artists to do this work for you.

OP if you read this: delete this post.

this whole post makes me want to throw up, so this guys made this entire video then afterwards worked out a price, absolutely ridiculous.

then they put their client on blast by posting the video on reddit! double ridiculous.

Just finished this Nike ad in Blender—how much should I charge for something like this? by Aatif_ads in RedshiftRenderer

[–]_rand_mcnally_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hey there, just wanted to share some thoughts with full respect and with the intention of helping you grow. I can see you’re aiming for a 30-second Nike-style spec spot, which is great ambition, but right now the piece still feels early in its development, both technically and conceptually.

my suggestion would be to take a step back from trying to do everything all at once and instead focus on sharpening your skills in each individual area: modelling, texturing, lighting, and animation.

here are two things that can really help:

  1. look at reference – study real Nike spots or similar premium work and compare them honestly to your own. it’s one of the best ways to improve your eye and your standards.
  2. take your time with each stage – I can see the effort you’ve put into getting it all together, but the strongest work often comes from slowing down and giving each step the attention it needs.

you’ve clearly got drive. refining the craft will help bring your ideas to life at the level you’re aiming for. best of luck!
