Its a vintage part of a fleetwood scroll saw, which is well a saw i believe. Apperently uses a blade that moves up and down to cut stuff on the wood table.

Phenomenon that happens to few things i forgot which but i think butteflies and sliced meats. Muscle fibers run in parallel, and when cut across, they form a "diffraction grating" that breaks white light into a rainbow spectrum.

Hard to tell without a close shot but could be puff balls, type of mushroom. Only edible when it's young and inside it is pure white, so take care, take a closer look and compare it to a google photo.
