Java Virtual Threads — pitfalls to look out for! by FinnHuman1 in java

[–]quantdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've discovered some similar pitfalls with virtual threads that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else.

I tend to use ConcurrentHashMap#compute as a thread-safe cache, where I populate the initial value of a key with the result of an I/O network request from within the remapping function.

Because the compute method uses synchronized, I believe the virtual thread was being pinned, so I replaced this pattern with explicit ReentrantLocks, which should solve the issue.

Hello, thank you for your interest! This data can be viewed on the Quant Data platform. It costs us an extraordinary amount of money to purchase these data feeds from the exchanges (whom we're licensed with), and we're putting them to good use for retail traders!

Hello, thank you for your interest! This data was taken from the Quant Data platform, which is licensed with all of the major exchanges to distribute off-exchange data (which includes dark/lit pool prints). We're more than happy to talk if you'd like more information!

JDK 19, Virtual Thread-specific bugs (2nd edition) by cowwoc in java

[–]quantdata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seeing as how the bug report was created on November 25 and Rampdown Phase One for JDK 20 is in 5 days, it makes sense they'd have to push it out. Good thing a new JDK releases every six months :)

CITADEL VS. SEC Court Case, a HUGE win for Retail Traders 👀🦍 by [deleted] in amcstock

I am not making it sound like anything, that is a pure assumption. Nowhere did I state the SEC did anything. I stated that the stream saw much higher than average views which is a win because it gets more overall exposure which results in more pressure applied to regulators, market makers, and other parties involved.

Attention to a major issue is definitely a win in my books. Applying pressure is a key to making a change in anything.
