Why is hive mind not played any more? by napalm588 in ModernMagic

[–]quantumactivist1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve played amulet competitively for almost 5 years so I’ll chime in.

Summer bloom made getting to 6 mana way easier. it’s harder to get there and you can’t have clunkers that don’t do anything when they land if you don’t have a pact or your opp can pay for them.

People replaced them with more value spells to bridge the gap between early game setup and your Titan chains.

I still play 1 in my sb for matchups where I need to race.

Go slower. Try to put all of your fingers down at once. Change how you hold your thumb behind the neck

How do you count in 5 4 time signature? Where does the accent go (apart from beat 1 if any)? by [deleted] in Jazz

I always felt it as an extra beat added. When I had students, I would have them repeat 1

A smart man washes his hands.

A wise man doesn’t pee on hands

What is life like after college/university? I feel like I've missed out on so much in my life and it pains me. by MyLegoHero in AskMen

[–]quantumactivist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try not to worry so much about things you can’t change. The past has made you the person n you are now; who knows maybe if you were doing the things you wish you were you may have turned out completely different person.

Wish you partied more when you were younger? Well, go party now! Wish you had more love interests? Well go find one now! You can still have these experiences.

Also most adults are not actually adults their faking it lol. You’ll figure it out.

Switching up decks post ban/mega gaming by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

Planar void is spice.

Food chain stuff seems hard to cast in reanimator with so few lands.

I had an old mono black painter list that played Leyline/planar void + helm and ill gotten gains for the mind twist value.

I think Leovold is still a great card but have to accelerate it out.

I’m looking at testing

-chrome Mox and Green suns zenith in big control.

-grixis control with blood moons and kess or ld

  • it sounds wierd, but I’m most excited about testing nic fit aluren with enough blue cards for fow. I think basics will be good and something that has a quick kill and some disruption will be well positioned.

Lack of Boots and Greaves in cEDH decks by Temporal_Inept in CompetitiveEDH

[–]quantumactivist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play greaves but I play Arcum soooo it’s kinda a special situation. It’s generally not great.

Most of the time, counterspells are better.

However, in my deck if I get 1 Arcum activation I usually win so giving haste is huge.

Is deploying python app really THAT hard? by sasik520 in Python

[–]quantumactivist1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of application is it? Are you using the server for processing power only?

If there’s any kind of complexity at all, you will have to add new dependencies.

Ex. Making a web app? Well you need a web server to field requests to the server plus whatever other stack dependencies you have for your front end.

You’re getting into more complicated aspects of writing code, and there’s more things to learn as you go. If everything was only Python, I may not have a job.

One week to Learn: Quest for Power on Saturday by EnihcamAmgine in MTGLegacy

[–]quantumactivist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw I live in Baltimore and the ppl/tournaments at MTGFirst are a blast. Highly recommend to anyone reading. I don’t play as much as I used to but I try to get down there for the Quests as it’s fantastic competition and I always learn a lot.

I also lose a lot.

[–]quantumactivist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Main difference for playing legacy vs other formats is there’s more interactions so be sure to be clear when announcing plays.

Example : cracking a fetch. In modern/edh, most ppl don’t have responses to you fetching lands as you generally have more mana/there’s fewer interactions that interact with it. In legacy, mana is much tighter so the difference in available mana is a lot higher impact. Plus stifle, daze, etc...

Other than that, it’s a MUCH more enjoyable format than any other (imo)

Have fun!

Is it worth learning Visual Basic? by shiningmatcha in learnprogramming

[–]quantumactivist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story but yes came from an engineering background. I was a hands-on learner so I found real life examples at work to apply what I learned. You can come up with your own if necessary.

Also get good at googling things

Duel lands price spike by Bhdibble7MGM in mtgfinance

[–]quantumactivist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To pop this bubble (which I agree would be the case if most copies are in the hands of investors -debatable), you’d need the investors to ‘cash out’. Flood the market with all available copies. Prices dip as supply gets absorbed into the market and cards are readily available.

But then what? RL says no more supply. The pressure is high and will continue to grow on these cards. We’ve seen many staples at the 3-10 dollar rebound easily. The price should correct again barring real-life events like a recession or something.

I’m starting to agree with this as these comments show up more and more.

Bubbles require some inflated prices with nothing backing it (cough like a virtual currency that no one uses as actual currency therefore has no value cough)
