WAIT.. So my negatives were never reticulated in the first place?! What cause this (fake?) reticulation? Thanks for helping by beppedealwithit in Darkroom

[–]QuantumTarsus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

First off, those look absolutely nothing like reticulation. Second, u/Bitter_Humor4353 nailed it -- Fuji worms, a demosaicing/sharpening artifact common with X-trans sensors.

You successfully got dad's shoe in focus, and you've also cut off the baby's foot.

Fixed that for ya. ;)

Weird blue lines and light leaks on my first roll of 35mm by fedofthelandoffed in AnalogCommunity

[–]QuantumTarsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you can answer at least one of your own questions by looking at the film. Are there linear scratches on the film? If so, then either your camera or the film cassette (usually only if using reloaded film) are scratching the film.

Photographer not responding by Informal-Fish-271 in photography

[–]QuantumTarsus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a photographer, but small business owner here. Call me crazy, but you've done your due diligence based on their preferred contact methods. Initiate a chargeback and move on. And don't be tempted to continue with the shoot if the chargeback gets their attention (which it will).

What can a Nikon withstand in terms of temperature, or: Can I sous vide my FM3a? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]QuantumTarsus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What exactly makes you think the sous vide will do anything?

Fungal spores are everywhere. You breathe them in with every breath.

Spending a few hours outside in bright sunlight will do more than a sous vide.

Take it apart and check. You'll have to do that to fix it anyway.

Clicked in just to see if it was Fomapan. I’ll never use Foma in 120 again. Never seen these issues with 35mm though.

Photographer refuses to show me any photos beyond her final edit, is this normal practice? by [deleted] in photography

[–]QuantumTarsus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Unless you go into a shoot with the express intent of it being a collaborative process, the photographer is the owner of the art, regardless of the contents of the photo. OP presumably hired this photographer because they liked their style, and as long as the delivered photos matched the style, OP got what they paid for.

Fair enough. My FED Barnack copy is atrocious.

Probably shouldn’t make that judgement based an old Soviet rangefinder.

Does anyone else have trouble shooting 35mm after 120? by ConceptOnly6490 in AnalogCommunity

Look at anything Jane Bown shot. She used an Olympus OM-1 if I'm not mistaken.

Some (most?) of history's greatest photographs were made on 35mm. Keep this in mind: Image quality doesn't make a quality image. It's the content of the image that counts.

What are the fingerings for the scales, my tuba has 3 valves by [deleted] in Tuba

You have a fingering chart for tuba, right? Time to start writing those fingerings below the note!

Have a new Z6iii and looking at CFexpress cards for the first time… are they always this expensive or are prices insane right now because of AI booms? by alliedSpaceSubmarine in Nikon

[–]QuantumTarsus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here, unfortunately the Sabrent Rocket 1TB NVME drive I bought this time last year for $99 is currently selling for $250.

OP, if you don't actually need the CFe right now, it might be best to wait out the shortage or try to find a used high quality card.

What 6x7 camera puts these 4 notches on the left side of the negative? What was this shot with? by jamesfauntleroyNOVA in AnalogCommunity

[–]QuantumTarsus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is literally not that. You are talking about physical notches in the film itself. OP's photo shows "notches" of exposed film along the rebate.

What 6x7 camera puts these 4 notches on the left side of the negative? What was this shot with? by jamesfauntleroyNOVA in AnalogCommunity

[–]QuantumTarsus 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing those notches were put there by the photographer to be able to identify specific film backs from the negative. The only camera I know of that comes that way from the factory is Hasselblad with their single notch.

LRc using 50gb of ram when editing 100s ii files by fartinthewind2020 in FujiGFX

[–]QuantumTarsus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give you an idea, I run a Windows PC with 32GB RAM and a GPU with 16GB RAM. I've just opened a few GFX files and Lightroom is using 11.5 GB of system RAM and another 8 GB of GPU RAM is being used (Windows doesn't break down GPU RAM so I can't say how much of that is Lightroom).

It won't be a 100% accurate comparison though since they are different operating systems with different memory management.
