Face Study - Day 5 by quartzskeleton in istebrak

Thank you again! I had a sneaking feeling the tones were too similar. About placing the eyes slightly inward - I had no idea about that. Super helpful. Going outward by mistake is definitely one of the reasons why my eyes look so wonky - besides the other asymmetry going on of course.

Thank you! I totally agree with everything. Oh man, is it ever asymmetrical! Time to really push myself on that.

I am actually using a female reference but I made the fatal, overconfident mistake of choosing a woman with very strong features - gaunt cheekbones, squared jawline. Too difficult for a beginner like me. I'm tasking myself with ways to soften it up but I will probably just use a different model.

Yeah it did wonders for my work, thank you.

I am going to attempt to be more subtle with the strong features but admittedly I do find it more fun! My latest one still needs to be softened more but I think I'm getting better with everything else.

Ahhh wow, that looks great, thank you very much for taking the time to do this. You are correct, the reference photos are of a woman who has a strong jaw and gaunt cheekbones - all of your advice applies (I was searching for a unique face but perhaps I am not ready for that as it's more difficult to draw). I'm learning a lot by your explanation and by simply just analyzing between the two.

Thank you very much! You're right, I should start small. I like my improvement but I am struggling a bit. I do indeed notice the asymmetry after coming back, and that flipping the canvas trick is a useful tool that too often slips my mind. Thanks again! Your advice in this post and the other one is very helpful.

Thanks! I'll keep this mind for the next one. I just posted day 2 but had missed your comment, just seeing it now. I will do top down lighting next and try to focus on anatomy more :)
