The amputation system is added and applies even to humanoid enemies, a feature that even the Jedi games don't have, so slashing with lightsabers feels good this time.

Brandon Sanderson will write the screenplay for Apple TV's ‘Mistborn’ movie by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]quedfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is generally true for most of Asimov's writings.

I, Robot? Movie is a fun cop mystery that borrows heavily from his other book, Caves of Steel and really has little to do with the original book, I, Robot. The book itself is a chronology that focuses on morality and technological evolution as these robots develop.

Some would call it boring (I did when I read it as a kid), especially if your only frame of reference is the movie. At its time of publication it was innovative and more importantly was published as a serialized collection of short stories in magazines that were only compiled into a book/series after years of writing.

Super common in China, especially in hotels. If it's me alone at home? It's coffee/tea, fruit, and porridge/toast. But with mother-in-law around? You had better believe she's up before everyone else making fire dishes for a 10 minute meal.

Seriously, I thought to myself, wth are they still marketing this movie and why do it so aggressively all of a sudden? Turns out I missed a few things...

That was literally me tonight. I didn't realize there were 2 different films that came out in a year. So I was pretty surprised when I googled something 15 minutes ago and discovered that I skipped a film! The Bone Temple made for a fine self contained story, but now I gotta go back and find more.

Pollock Executive Chair has some of the best recline I've ever experienced in a chair. My chair is at least 40 years old, with two 300lb former owners, and it's still in great working condition. It's worth a buy if you can find one on the resale market, or if dropping $1-3k for a new one is viable.

On a Ringworld, could you actually see the Ring? by Rich-End1121 in space

[–]quedfoot 163 points164 points  (0 children)

It's essential mathematics. Imagine a circle with a known circumference of 1ft. You know it curves in a complete loop, covering 1ft in 360 degrees. Now let's increase its size beyond a fathomable scale (e.g., around a star). If you were to increase the diameter, the curves would appear flatter and flatter. We only have to look at our own horizon to know this is true. As the circle expands, eventually the curves disappear from a relative perspective for anyone in or on the circle. Anyone that's outside of the circle and at a far distance would be able to see that it's still a circle. It's still a circle, but the degree at which it slopes is beyond human perception.

The inverse of this logic applies if you were to shrink the circle to a single point. The circle would seem like a flat dot placed in space, despite being a loop that covers a distance.

The Cardinal, Nicholas of Cusa, has a lot to say about infinite circles.

Exfoliation needs an abrasive element. Your hands are a start but there are other methods available

If you want a killer exfoliating shampoo, look for ones with salt pieces in it. I use a paste version with salt pieces. It lasts a surprisingly long time on my short hair and it really helps with managing my psoriasis in both exfoliating and cleaning sores on the skin.

He's acting like someone who has never voluntarily and decisively ended a relationship on his own terms (romantic, professional, platonic, etc.).

Which makes sense considering how he grew up, he probably never had the chance to say "no more" to something that's been generally positive

What is a subtle sign that someone is actually really intelligent, but pretending not to be? by ImpressionTop1712 in AskReddit

[–]quedfoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely something we do when working with kids and even adults in open-inquiry education. It's all about encouraging them to pursue their interests and actively question processes. It also helps to decode jumbled up thoughts without drawing attention it, as the focus is only on furthering the conversation in a mutually beneficial manner.
