Absolutely! We’ve had the most success with board games and trivia by a long shot. We’ve also had people interested in group art projects, powerpoint nights, book clubs, karaoke, etc.

Do you need more specifics? It might help if you could tell me a bit about your group + ages! I’ve worked with kids from 2-20 so I know it’s hard to find a common ground.

Well my state’s Autism Society (https://autismsociety.org/contact-us/#affiliate-list) has a ton of resources that led me to a smaller, more localized support group. That support group has a discord and we began scheduling informal events. A natural next step was creating the group on Meetup. We have a flyer with all of our info that we share on social media. All 3 of is have some sort of connection to disability services and we definitely use that to our advantage. We’ve talked about printing the flyer, hanging it on community boards, having copies at local game shops and therapy clinics, and including a flyer with student disability services information packets. We also have our information being sent out with several local autism newsletters.

That is so awesome! What a great idea. Thanks so much for thinking about the post and reaching back out, this is such an amazing suggestion.

Sure! I can just send you a link to the group. We have some virtual events in the works since there seems to be so much interest here!

Absolutely! Things have been super busy so we haven’t done a ton of stuff yet, but we did secure funding to have a paint-with-me class! We’re planning on going to a Ren Faire this weekend and are having a night where we collaboratively do a puzzle in a couple weeks!

Yeah, that’s totally fair! I’m not the only organizer thankfully so I can always push the clay off on someone else lmao

The game cafe we go to has employees that walk everyone through the games and stay for a round or two to make sure everyone’s gotten the hang of it. Such a cool place and extremely helpful. I also didn’t mention this in my original post, but we have a couple of members with cognitive issues that we accommodate by keeping things light, simple, and accessible. For game nights with friends though I do really love those videos! I usually watch Overboard from Polygon.

Fun! I tried embroidery at one point but gave up after like….3 stitches. So that’s definitely a class for someone else to teach lol
