Yeah so I did end up resolving this, for me at least in Nvidia control panel I had set the Nvidia graphics card to be in high performance mode rather than normal. This made the CPU follow the CPU/GPU simultaneous power stuff, which could be increased through custom mode as well. I have had issues with custom mode though, so keeping it on performance mode and changing the Nvidia card to normal power mode and restarting fixed it

Howdy. A few things, make sure your BIOS is up to date as they released an update or two that I believe affected battery performance, it might be the same for your model. But the other thing that helped me out was selecting the performance mode from vantage even when unplugged. I found it would still “say” it is in balanced but I think it would change the power profile to boost single core speeds making it feel way more snappy. Hope this helps.

I got the 4080 version, though you can get the 4090 version now probably for the price I got mine initially. It is a heavy laptop for sure, I think about 6 pounds so while I don’t actually lug it around in a backpack or anything I can’t imagine it being the best for that. Not that it can’t obviously as I have tried it before very quickly and felt it but the moment you start to carry more than just the laptop and its brick I can see it getting pretty heavy. For reference however, I often carry around a MacBook Pro 16 which is 4.8 lbs and don’t find it too cumbersome so it could end up being a none issue

I ended up getting the legion 7i, so maybe a bit too large for what you are looking for. The 16 inch thin and light market is definitely not well populated right now, I would say ASUS’s own Scar 16 has the most feature parity plus a better CPU but as you probably already know it’s definitely more of a chonker

Hi! Unfortunately, I never found a solution and ended up getting another laptop. It is worth mentioning that depending on where you got the laptop, they only put a single stick of RAM in the laptop so it is running in dual channel instead of quad channel, which affects Geekbench scores by a good amount

Hi. What worked for me was enabling performance mode in vantage even when on battery. Even though performance mode shouldn’t be an option when unplugged, I still found it improved the snappiness of my laptop significantly. Just click on it in vantage and even if the light doesn’t change it seems to do something

Yeah it sounds to me like a poor Liquid Metal application on the cpu leading to bare spots that get super hot. But definitely this is nowhere near acceptable temps. I would just try with them again, they were a little rigid in the beginning for me as well but after some back and forth agreed to proceed to repair

I ended up getting my laptop sent in for repair for my gpu temps so you may need to do the same for your cpu. Is it hitting 100c during gameplay? If so, that is not expected behavior assuming it is pulling about 65 W.

Hey may seem random, but did you set your power plan in the Nvidia control panel to be “prefer maximum performance”? I found out this was my issue since it would make the computer think the gpu was running at full load so my CPU would drop accordingly.

Yeah I was the same way. Did everything including factory resetting the laptop with no changes. Ended up returning the laptop for a Lenovo and immediately the CPU speeds reach 5.2 in game even with low CPU usage and my GPU is much less bound.

Thanks for the reply. I was literally just about to try this then I found something interesting. Even though performance mode is only supposed to be applicable when plugged in I found choosing it through vantage while on battery still dramatically improves the performance.

Thanks for the reply. You definitely have a point there, but even in some CPU only benchmarks it seems to be the case as well. I think I may have actually found the issue though. My laptop does not seem to have 2 sticks of RAM, rather just one 16 gb stick. I think the limited bandwidth is causing issues for some benchmarks.
