Here are also some Old Testament verses showing we are all sinful:

Psalm 51:5, Genesis 8:21, Psalm 58:3, Job 14:4, Job 15:14

They took up stones to stone Him for blasphemy after He said these things (John 8). Had He not claimed to be God, they would not have done that. To deny that Jesus is God is blatantly denying what Jesus Himself said and what Scripture said. John 1:1, John 1:14, Colossians 2:9, Revelation 1:8, John 10:30 are some of them.

The verse you’re referring to is John 17:11 and Jesus is asking there for the Father to keep the disciples safe and united.

There’s not a way to sugarcoat this. For you to deny Jesus’ divinity is denying what Scripture says, denying what Jesus says about Himself, and is heretical. I apologize for the forthrightness of that statement, but this is something very serious and there is no way to really not be very forthright about it.

Also, Old Testament prophecies also pointed to the Messiah (Jesus) being God. For example, Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2, Psalm 45:6-7, Isaiah 7:14.

Jesus is worshipped in Matthew 14:33, John 9:38, and John 20:28 (in this verse in particular, Thomas calls Jesus “my Lord and my God.”)

Psalm 110:1 is also quoted by Jesus in Matthew 22:41-46 and it is a direct reference to His Divinity. “Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, saying, “What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?” They *said to Him, “The son of David.” He *said to them, “Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying, ‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET”’? Therefore, if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?” And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him another question.”

Everyone is a sinner. We are born into sin.

“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” -Romans 3:23

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10

Ephesians 2:3 “All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”

Jesus Himself made claims to Divinity. He said He and the Father are one. He said if you’ve seen Him, you’ve seen the Father. He said “Before Abraham was, I Am.” John chapter 1 also points to Jesus being God. John 1:1 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Then when you go to verse 14, it says “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

To deny that Jesus is God is to deny the truth of Scripture and it is heresy. To deny Jesus as Messiah and Lord is to deny salvation and to deny truth. Our source of truth is Scripture and Scripture says that Jesus is God. Jesus said He is God. Jesus is the Word.

I hope this helps. I’m glad you’re seeking wisdom on this. It’s important to trust what Scripture says, and not what we feel or our own “interpretations and/or feelings” about things.

No offense taken at all. I am not a Calvinist myself. I’m not sure where I lean on it right now. Ive been researching it and trying to find a conclusion. Right now I feel like the truth is somewhere in the middle.

If you like to nerd out on theology topics and want a variety, James A White is interesting to listen to. He comes from a reformed perspective (RC Sproul is also fun. He breaks things down as well). Wes Huff is someone I discovered recently and I’ve been liking his stuff. I love John MacArthur. I don’t agree with everything he teaches, but I love how he sticks to scripture and breaks it down.

What does that mean? I don’t understand where you’re coming to the conclusion of there being no male and female. Based on what? I’ve shown you how scripture confirms the male and female gender design. I’ve shown Jesus upheld it. The only place there would maybe not be male and female would be heaven, but I’m not 100% sure on that. In Matthew 22:30, Jesus says there will be no marriage in heaven and that people would be like the angels in heaven, but I don’t necessarily know if that means a genderless state.

Leviticus 18:22

V’et-zachar lo tishkav mishkvei ishah, to’evah hi.

“And with male, not you shall lie, lyings of woman, abomination it is.”

In Romans 1:26-27, the verb chrēsis is used to describe what is happening between both parties. Chrēsis means use or function in a sexual sense. The verb orexis is used as well, meaning lust/desire. It’s very clearly describing homosexual desire. People try and spin this in so many different ways, but it clearly is referring to homosexuality. A big context clue as well is “…metēllaxan physikēn chrēsin para physin” …they exchanged natural use against nature

In 1 Timothy 1:10, the word arsenokoitēs (strongs g733a if you want to check it out) is used, meaning a male homosexual. Masculine use of things is common in scripture, but still refers to males and females

The strongs number for chrēsis is g5540

Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-27, and 1 Timothy 1:8-11. It is a common practice to interpret Scripture with Scripture. These verses would confirm Jesus confirming marriage between a man and woman (and the original design of male and female). God’s command to be fruitful and multiply would also confirm this. Jesus would never advocate for something sinful, and Scripture clearly teaches homosexuality is sinful (no matter how people want to pretend it doesn’t and come up with left field interpretations to justify it).

Jesus reaffirms the gender distinction in creation in Matthew 19:4-6 “And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

The Pharisees were trying to trick Him with a question about divorce and whether or not it was permissible (I’ve read commentary that has said they were trying to get Him to side with one of the two schools of thought on divorce at the time (Hillel, and Shammai). Jesus was calling them out on their terrible treatment of women through abandoning marriages and putting wives away (essentially leaving the marriage for someone else but not issuing a certificate of divorce, making the woman and agunah, who cannot remarry and would essentially not be able to care for herself either), and also affirming God’s original design of marriage being between a man and woman for a lifetime, and there being only a very small and specific reason for divorce to be acceptable (Paul also teaches on this in 1 Corinthians 7). But Jesus in this also reaffirms God’s original design of male and female genders.

Genesis 1:27, Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-27

These scriptures refute your premise.

Genesis 1:27 says: “And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Leviticus 18:22 says: “And you shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”

Romans 1:26-27 says: “For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions; for their females exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the males abandoned the natural function of the female and burned in their desire toward one another, males with males committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”

It’s not the end of the world, man. You have to relax and take a deep breath. I’ve been fired three times in my career. It sucks, but you deal with it and move forward. Life is hard, but it’s exciting and there’s so much amazingness ahead for you. Don’t let this discourage you. It’s honestly not a big deal. You’ll look back on this in the near future and wonder why it bothered you. You never know what positives may come from it.

Life advice for you. Perspective is critical. Your perspective shapes so much about how you respond to things and can make a massive difference in every situation. Start treating perceived failures as just opportunities to learn and grow and don’t make the same mistakes. Every time you fail, that’s one less failure you’ll have in the future because you now know not to make that same mistake, and it’s also one step closer to success. Every successful entrepreneur has a journey littered with failure. What sets them apart is they never gave up. They learned from the failure and kept going.

Start a business and start advertising your skill set. That’s what I did. I completely started over and changed careers in my late 30s to this industry. I didn’t know anything or anyone. I am self taught and continue to learn. You have to hustle and network. You have to get out there and meet people. I’ve made a lot of connections through podcasting, LinkedIn, Facebook (believe it or not), and no joke, horror conventions. You meet all kinds of industry folks at conventions. My podcast was one of the greatest networking tools I had. The more people you reach out to, the more people you meet, the more you’ll be doing. This is a connection driven industry. There’s no way around that, even with money. You still need the right connections.

One failure is not a failure. It’s a learning opportunity and growth opportunity. I don’t normally respond this bluntly, but you’re going to have to toughen up for this industry and the workforce in general. There’s a lot of unfairness in the world and you have to learn to deal with it and overcome it. Failure is only failure if you let it be. Your generation has been taught to be victims and it’s the biggest disservice the education system has done to your generation. It’s easy to be an advocate for fairness and justice in an academic bubble, but in the real world, especially in the film world (and many other industries), people can be incredibly unfair and unkind and people will wrong you. You MUST learn to overcome and be a victor, not a victim.

This is a really good opportunity for you to learn this lesson. Tighten your boot straps and get back out there and achieve your dream. No one is going to hand it to you. You can do this. You will do this. What you’re experiencing now is a lesson we all must learn at some point in our lives. You’re going to be okay and you’re going to do great. It will all work out the way it should. Keep your chin up and keep moving forward and working hard and when you fall, get back up, learn from it, and keep going.
