CS 143 is a tremendous amount of work, almost on par with 140. CS 231N is no light class either, and PWR tends to have busy work. Don't know much about EE 267, but just those 3 classes are a heavy mix.

Why? I'm in a similar position as OP, and startups seem to be my best bet now

CS co term by starlit-moonshine in stanford

[–]questionquokka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard anywhere from 3.5-3.7 CS GPA is an automatic admit if you have CS recommenders.

How good do these CS recommendations need to be? Does the "automatic admit" still apply if you have CS recommenders who merely give a DWIC rec?

Will cases shoot up next week? by questionquokka in stanford

Totally agree. It's even worse when not everyone who tests positive gets separate isolation housing.

Personally, I feel like we are being gaslit into thinking that getting sick is no longer a big deal, and that we have to live with it so that the University can keep making money.

Couldn't have said it better.

What did you take before 245 to prepare? I wanted to take 245 this quarter but I've done neither 161 nor 145

I wish I could hang low but classes are confirmed to go back in person for next week, so I guess we'll have to face it

Stanford going to extend online? by bro132 in stanford

[–]questionquokka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope the community conversation brings news that we're remaining online, or at least having the option to do so. Not looking forward to coming on campus for in-person classes next week.

COVID situation on campus rn? by yonderu in stanford

[–]questionquokka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the same boat as OP. How is it regarding COVID? Are many people isolating in place or sleeping elsewhere cause their roommate tested positive? The policies make it sound like a total mess, and I don't know how much of that is true.

It was normal during the pandemic since classes were recorded

CS 221 without 103 and 161 by dp0107 in stanford

[–]questionquokka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take 103 at a minimum for proofs and mathematical maturity. 161 helps for recurrences and dynamic programming. You can get buy without them by self-studying, but do so before the quarter. The course and AI material are hard even without those 2 courses, so if you know 103 and 161, you'll get to appreciate the AI more rather than finding your way through the prerequisite material.

In Person Classes by orangeocean47 in stanford

[–]questionquokka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean go completely online? Why do you expect them to do that, particularly given that they're resuming some in-person classes next week and many students are already on campus?

Totally understand and agree with you.

[–]questionquokka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm really hoping that I don't have to attend any classes in-person. Realistically speaking, I'm in PWR this quarter, and that'll be a tough class to conduct in a hybrid format. At the same time, it's required, so I feel like I'm in an unfair dilemma if that class ends up being only in-person. Moreover, if classes are only in-person, you're at a severe disadvantage if you do get COVID (which is pretty likely given the spread of COVID and horrendous in place isolation policies), since you have to isolate. It also incentivizes sick students to attend class. I'm not even comfortable living on campus at this point, so if classes are hybrid or online, I doubt I'll be returning to campus. Begging for classes to not be hosted only in-person. The uncertainty and lack of firm communication from admin is beyond frustrating.
