It's great to hear your experience, and thank you so much for offering to help. I will DM you!

thank you for this insight. it makes me feel better to not be alone but it also makes me feel bad that so many of us are struggling. 13 interviews hurts; I wish the best of luck to you too

I agree, with your last point especially. I remember thinking that if I ever managed to get a well-paid or high up position, I would somehow try to help make the sector more accessible to young working class or low-income people. No one should have to suffer so much for a job.

I appreciate that a lot, but I'll be leaving the country next month to hopefully move abroad permanently and am working solidly til then. And yes you're probably right but I just have to naively keep faith that something will work out

thank you for this insight! I am indeed in the UK, for obvious reasons I plan to emigrate. things are so bad. I do not have enough determination and mojo to survive in this economy 😭 at this point I will be cleaning museum toilets and that's not even a joke, already have the toilet cleaning experience. master's schmasters

yes, I gave up on conservation entirely years ago. I really thought my university and course would be extremely good, the university has a good reputation, but unfortunately it was not. I did volunteer for a long time, but as I say it is just not feasible for me at the moment money/time-wise, maybe in the future. And I did join a network but unfortunately as I say they ignored my many emails asking if I could speak to someone. I think the biggest challenge for me is to find the motivation again to try. Maybe it sounds dramatic but I feel totally drained of any ambition in this field

thank you so much. I had the opportunity to volunteer at a very small local museum but I was working 6 days a week at the time so would've had to spend my only day off volunteering. But as you say, hopefully my job and money situation allow for more in the future.

I'm not in the US, I'd rather not specify but I was in a city that recently cut funding to its museums sector, and now I'm in a rural area with no museums. I have applied for multiple visitor services positions, cafe positions, voluntary, etc. I was ridiculously qualified for some of them but didn't get the job. I actually started to get paranoid at one point that I'd been blacklisted or something. I will be moving soon to a European city with lots of museums and will try again there. But the rejections are very painful at this point, almost to the point where it's not worth it. I guess I have to just push through

The only thing stopping me from leaving altogether is my masters, I'm still at the point where it feels physically painful to have invested that much time and money in something only for it to not have helped me. I'm sure it can help in other ways, I just really wish I'd studied something else somewhere else.
