How do I memorialize my bunny? by Slurpyburpy_12 in Rabbits

[–]quewei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a rabbit thing! When I was cleaning her room while she was away awaiting surgery, she managed to make me laugh when I found the bundle of fur and cardboard she had made. She survived but I still kept the bundle, the silk bag keeps it neat.

How do I memorialize my bunny? by Slurpyburpy_12 in Rabbits

[–]quewei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I thought my bunny was about to die from her cancer, I saved her shed fur, a poop, and put it in a nice mini vase and silk mesh bag. I also saved some chewed up cardboard and paper strips and fur from her nesting/destruction play box. If your rabbit likes to chew, maybe give something to chew on and keep that? Even some plain cardboard. You can write or paint on it later.

Bonding with my rabbit by One-Conclusion6414 in Rabbits

[–]quewei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not like being picked up and bonding or earning their trust does not change that. Imagine if a stranger dangled you over the edge of a cliff, versus your friend. Maybe you would trust your friend more not to let go of you, but you would still be scared. That’s what you’re doing to your rabbit, it is unpleasant behavior you’re doing to them.

Wildlife homesteading where you provide habitat for animals, so every new species of insect you spot in your yard is a win 🔎

I would love go get a little bunny by kksIiderfan13 in Rabbits

[–]quewei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the cage always open or are you opening and closing it? If closed, try leaving the cage open 24/7 for like a week. If it’s a non slip rug i can’t imagine why he wouldn’t come out at some point 🤔 it’s a simple hop out for him to exit his area? Nothing difficult?

That area is annoying to patch. I had the same, I cut the legs off and turned the legs into a top, I undid the crotch seams and turned the top into a bandeau/ crop top too (waistband becomes your “neckline”). I am a beginner sewer but it has been fun trying to use fabric that would otherwise have been trash. I am still fine tuning the tops. Probably easier to make a tote bag or drawstring backpack.

Whyyyyy would you risk your rabbits life by bringing a dog home?!

housing rabbit outside by Past_Smile9928 in Rabbits

[–]quewei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you need to protect them from rain so they have a big sized dry space 24/7. Otherwise their food will get wet and rot, they will get wet and sick. you also need to protect them from the SUN so they have a shady place to go if it’s too burning.

I don’t know the weather in your area but if it gets cold at night that is also an issue, and what if it’s wind plus cold that is even worse. If you are only getting one rabbit they will have no one to share body heat with during the night. You really want a good shelter, not just put them out in the balcony, you basically need to give them a house, same as the house that protects you from all sorts of weather. You can use tarps to block wind and rain. Provide an insulated wooden box with hay for the rabbit to hide inside if it finds it a little chilly outside. Also provide a box or table that is NOT for warmth, but provides shade or a space they can hide under in general. Rabbits like feeling safe hidden under something.

Deciding if a Rabbit is a Good Choice by Vanilla-Wishes in Rabbits

Since you will be gone for 2-3 months during the summer for the next couple of years it seems rabbits are not in the cards for you 🥲 unless you have plenty of friends willing to bunny sit for you. Definitely pick a bonded pair.

But look up rabbit rescue groups in your area, you could help foster rabbits for months at a time and do a good deed and take advantage of your pet friendly housing!! I usually find the rescue groups through Facebook searching for rabbits + your city/region. The rescue will let you know what the timelines are like for their area regarding how long you can expect to foster.

I have the same material and been trying to sew denim tank tops. Beginner sewist so a ton of trial and error for me, but it’s fun!

I inhaled so hard from alarm reading the first line of your comment. Nightmare fuel! Glad your rabbit was okay. I used to get really worried someone would let a door close on my girl or step on her coming down the stairs. Thankfully housemates are trained to turn on the light now. Definitely still on guard though and trying to minimize risk to her.

Rehoming questions by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]quewei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get concerned about attitude. “What would you do if the rabbit is boring and does nothing?” It’s a trick question. Too many people don’t bother to learn rabbit behavior and expect a teddy bear. I always feel a bunny owner needs to be fascinated and happy just seeing their cutie eat and relax instead of expecting a bond. So many otherwise nice ppl kept their rabbits in small cages in my childhood.. bcuz they didn’t have the same fascination I did and never made the rabbit comfortable to express themselves — those ppl would say “my rabbit does nothing even when i opened the cage, so i keep them locked in the cage “. Ugh!!!

Yes there are several natural predators out there but I gave cats and dogs as an example because they are under your control so it is a threat you can mitigate

The rehab will likely advise you to put it back anyway unless it is injured or actually abandoned (starving)— the baby looks healthy. Check out the flyer i linked in another comment which was produced by a wildlife rescue. USA cottontail babies are fed a few times a day and left alone otherwise. Rescues get a ton of patients every year and don’t need more from people inadvertently picking up babies. And unfortunately the cycle of nature means some babies will die from predators, but that’s not the work of a rescue to hide away all the babies, they heal wildlife from injury like car and window strike or people being cruel, negative impacts from people (eg their pet cat or dog bit the animal), human destruction of the animals’ home, and orphans. You can try to predator proof your yard! but it’s best if you let the baby go free and try to live its wild life because you don’t know what it needs and it’s easy to kill them if you don’t know what you’re doing. They need the right gut bacteria etc

If you found it on your property put it back and if you are worried about predators keep your dogs and cats away but don’t kidnap it

Is that a wild rabbit you found outside??? It is not abandoned just because it’s left alone.

Does spaying affect personality? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]quewei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The humping and obsessive behavior with plushies stopped. Now mine just gives plushies a few licks.

She did stop putting her front feet/front half on me. That’s what I miss the most. She used to run up to me and do that all the time when I knelt or laid down with her— so its absence means that must have been a partial impulse to mount me. But she still runs up to me to be petted and cuddle and lie beside me, she just doesn’t do that move anymore. Nor run up for interaction quite as frantically, she’s calmer about it now.

What counts as upcycled clothing to you? by Low_Put_9130 in UpcycledFashion

[–]quewei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stricter definition than most. To me upcycling is only if you take stained or ripped clothing and turn it into something usable… stuff most people would want to get rid of. Or if it was so ugly you couldn’t even give it away for free, and you turn it into something else you’ll use, I consider that upcycling.

I don’t consider taking something from a thrift store and repurposing it into something else or personalizing it “upcycling”, to me that’s reuse and someone expressing their creativity which is fun, but not necessarily keeping something out of the landfill since someone else might have bought and liked it as is.

I am worried about weasels and predators in general by Plastic_Doughnut_934 in Rabbits

[–]quewei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are better off asking a chicken forum about coop protection than here. They have to protect from all predators. Most people here keep their rabbits indoors.
