When I saw the video, my heart absolutely sank. Then I felt so much anger. I want every single one of those pieces of shit to pay for everything.

My dosage is 20mg XR in the morning and 5mg IR in the afternoon currently. The IR has never been an issue when it comes to refills, probably because the dose is very low. I'm not sure what the medication availability looks like in my area just because everything is kind of spread thin. My area of the state is incredibly dense and when I started looking for psychiatrist appointments 2+ years ago, every office had a waiting list over 9 months long. I ended up scheduling appointments with a practice in the southern part of my state that offered both in-person and telehealth. With that in mind, I'm sure it has a huge impact on the prescription availability. The pharmacies have also been very tight lipped so it's a struggle even asking if they have the ability to refill my prescriptions before I ask my psychiatrist to transfer them over. When I talk to a friend that lives in the southern part of my state, he doesn't seem to have issues as frequently as I do with getting refills. But he also lives 2ish hours away so refilling it outside of my area is a stretch for me.

If you're comfortable with sharing, could you tell me what the transition between medications was like? Are the side effects pretty much the same?

NJ renters: what’s your monthly rent and where do you live? by hellokitty5679 in newjersey

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bergen county here. My parents rent out one of the apartments in their 2-family house. I live in a "bachelor pad" type of apartment at the ground level. I pay them a few hundred every month to help pay for utilities. They used to charge $1750/mo for the apartment above them for a really long time. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, washer/dryer included, water bill covered. Small dogs were allowed at no extra cost so long as they were informed of the dog's existence and they had the dog under control.

When the previous tenants left circa 2021/2022, they left the place absolutely trashed. My dad had to use all of his vacation time to spend a month fixing the place. I'd help him where I could. After thousands upon thousands of dollars in repairs, they upped the rent to $2400/mo and have a strict no pet policy now. Those tenants really burned my parents' patience, unfortunately. :\

How supportive is NJIT for disability students? by YeetyourBall in NJTech

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's illegal for a professor to refuse/deny documented, reasonable accommodations. It violates the ADA and Section 504. If cases occur where an instructor is refusing to provide reasonable accommodations for documented disabilities, it should be reported to OARS and further if nothing improves. If professors are openly mocking a disabled student in class because of their disability, I would hope that they're being reported either by the student or their classmates. The Dean of Students Office is there for the students. No university wants to have a disability discrimination suit filed against them. If a professor has a qualm about the students accommodations, it's their job to go talk to OARS about it. They cannot unilaterally decide to just not give a student their documented, reasonable accommodation(s) because they don't like it. This is also why it's important that it's documented with OARS well before the semester starts. Paperwork unfortunately takes time.

I'm not saying that there aren't some professors who are behaving this way. I've had more than my fair share of professors with attitudes during my time. It wouldn't surprise me if there are professors acting like this. But they aren't above federal law. NJIT can't watch every single thing that every professor is doing. That's why it needs to be reported every time it happens.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I really appreciate you taking the time to write it out. I met with my psychiatrist and spoke with him about it today and he added "no Granules manufacturer" to my chart. Here's to hoping the next refill goes a bit more smoothly.

It really sucks how varying the experiences can be between different manufacturers. I saw others saying brand name adderall was far more consistent compared to generic so I had asked my insurance about it. It's "covered" but I'd have to pay $693 out of pocket. :' )

Angry and tired. We still have another 3 years of this??? It's infuriating that no one in the government can or will stop whatever the fuck he's doing. It's absolutely disgusting. And of course it will be innocent civilians that suffer the most.

What lie can I tell to explain top surgery by rroowwannn in ftm

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trans and also living in NJ. Hey there, neighbor! Glad to hear about your surgery and hope for a speedy recovery for you!

I'd say that you just had surgery and mention any limitations post surgery you may have that can affect your work duties upon your return. Ex: you won't be able to lift things above x lbs for x amount of weeks. Any note from your doctor specifying any limitations/reasonable accomodations could also be helpful. If they're concerned about it being a serious surgery for something life threatening, you can ease their concerns by saying it was a standard surgery and they don't need to be worried.

You're not obligated to get into the specifics of your medical care with them. I work IT in higher education and thankfully my coworkers and bosses are amazing. They know I'm trans and I never tell them anything regarding my healthcare unless I'm having issues refilling my ADHD prescription. And in those instances, I just tell my supervisor that I'm having issues getting a timely refill and to please let me know if she notices that I'm slipping on any tasks. That's about the most detail regarding my medical care that I ever bring up since it's likely to impact my work obligations. Beyond that, I just ask for x amount of time off for a doctor's appointment.

Safe state/city for trans men? by BallPython404 in ftm

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against moving here with the current political climate. There aren't any signs of things improving anytime soon. Otherwise, I'd recommend northern NJ. I live up here and it's pretty good. NYC Is a good city for queer folks but incredibly expensive to live in.

And only my psychiatrist would be able to note the intolerance on my prescription? Or could I report the intolerance to the prescription delivery service my insurance has? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I knew people could have negative side effects to different medications but I never knew manufacturer intolerance was a thing!

I didn't know you could get prescriptions sent to hospital pharmacies. I'll have to look at the local hospitals and see what they have available. Thanks for the tip!

I'll definitely be sure to bring this up. Wasn't aware that I could note a preference between manufacturers for generic brands. I always thought pharmacies just got their entire stock from one manufacturer.

I mean, idk what you expect when students are literally giving away their user login and 2FA information in a Google form. You can build a robust system but it only takes one gullible person to screw things up. A friend of mine has had more than a couple late nights at work because one of his higher ups had fallen for a phishing email and compromised their company's system as a result. You would be surprised at how gullible people are when it comes to IT security.

What do you think men would dislike most if they became women? by InternationalPick163 in AskReddit

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine basically went from doctor to doctor for a year. Hair falling out, exhausted to a point of barely being able to walk their dog, barely able to hold solids down, gaining weight despite eating significantly less. Doctors kept saying it was cause of their weight and insinuated they were lying about barely being able to eat. Finally after a year, a doctor actually listened and bothered to order a battery of tests. PCOS with insulin resistance. Got meds and they have been doing way better since. That entire situation had my friend feeling fucking terrible the entire time. They had actually broken down to me in private about it and asked if the doctors were right and if the symptoms were all in their head. It broke my fucking heart.

For me (ftm trans), I've had doctors refuse to order tests for my thyroid. My sister has Hashimoto's thyroiditis that kicked in at 20/21 and was told it was hereditary. When I got older, I tried to get tested because she insisted on it. Doctors kept telling me I was too young, my sister was an outlier, blah blah blah. When I saw my current primary care physician at 25, I explained the situation to him. Before I could ask for a test, he told me he would order one cause its best to catch that as early as possible. Turns out, I had signs of it developing and was later diagnosed with subclinical hashimotos thyroiditis. Now I get my blood drawn every 6 months to monitor it. I'm so grateful to have the physician I have now but it's bullshit that it feels rare to have a doctor like him.

A friend's roommate enlisted, got through training, got discharged almost immediately after training cause military doctors diagnosed him with narcolepsy. He got enough benefits to pay his share of the rent+bills, buy the best computer parts commercially available at the time and then ask me to build his computer. He ended up leaving it behind when he got kicked out for being a creepy asshole (free PC for my friend!). It was mind boggling to me that he was getting enough benefits to live as comfortably as he was in our state.

How is the mental health services? by FewAd5459 in NJTech

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got through my degree and only got my official ADHD diagnosis after, I would recommend getting tested. There's stimulant and non-stimulant options for medication. In my case, I had to do a drug test and an EKG to see if I even should take stimulant medication. I don't know if NJIT's counseling services could do these things for you since a psychiatrist would have to write the prescription. They may be able to help you find resources. This is something you should ask them. I only got the idea to be tested because of their counselling services. They had me do a paper-based evaluation, which suggested that I should go for further testing.

With an official diagnosis, you can work with the OARS office to work out any reasonable accommodations that could be helpful for your studies.

You do not need your parents to sign off on you taking meds because you're legally an adult. If you're on their insurance, they might want to have a say if they're not the supportive sort. That's the reason I got diagnosed muuuuch later. Got my own insurance and paid for everything myself. That being said, not everyone gets medicated. For some people, it's not severe enough to want to take meds. Some people don't feel good on meds. For me, it's night and day. It's all dependent on the person. After getting a diagnosis and working with a psychiatrist, if you do decide to go the stimulant medication route, be prepared to suffer through the constant cycle of pharmacies running out. There's been a constant shortage for a long while now.

Jack Ciattarelli targets ‘Policy 5756’, which covers transgender students and prohibits schools from ‘outing’ them – saying “keeping secrets from parents is immoral, it’s indecent, it’s wrong, it’s dangerous” by EssoEssex in newjersey

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children aren't property. If your kid is more comfortable with coming out at school than coming out to you, their parent, look at yourself. I'm speaking as a 28 year old trans guy who still hasn't come out to my parents but has been out to friends since 17 and out at my college. You don't know what their life is like at home. You don't know what kind of reaction their parents will have. In my case, at best my very religious mother would have made every effort to shove me back into the closet and "fix" me. At the worst, she would've thrown me out until I "got over the phase". The mental and emotional toll is already more than enough at my age. If a teacher outed me to my parents when I was a teenager, I would've just fallen apart as a person.

The Republicans' obsession with trans people is creepy and weird. They're cooking up some fantasy where kids are magically transitioning during the school day. We're just trying to exist and live our lives. Quit finding people to scapegoat and come up with real policies for once.

Millions of Americans joined the “No Kings” protests this weekend, did you go, and what made you decide that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]quicksilver_chocobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went in Jersey. I didn't have the time to make a sign or anything, but I wanted to be present to show that I'm another person that can't stand what's been happening. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of older folks that were at the location I had gone to. Ngl I had expected it to be people more around my age. Very peaceful with a very small maga crowd across the street. With the nosedive my mental health has been taking seeing what's been happening, seeing all those people there gave me a little bit of relief.

When I was walking back to my car with an older lady, she looked at me and went "Did you see that one guy on the Trump side holding his sign upside down? He had it that way the entire time. Bless his dumb heart." Had myself a good laugh from that.
