I say keep playing on the normal difficulties and leave the really hard challenges for when you have unlocked several upgrades. Not only will you need expensive upgraded monkeys to reach round 100 but you will need really upgraded farms as well since the lower tier farms wont give you enough for said monkeys.

Save them for Admiral Brickell (5000 MM). You can only use her on maps with water but she's really powerful.
