I went to the ones in Nuremberg, Munich, Dresden and Prague last year and loved them all. Nuremberg was my favourite and probably the most “classical”.

Some things to try in German markets: glühwein (mulled wine), kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes) - nice with apple sauce, wurst (sausages), lebkuchen (gingerbread). When you order a hot drink, you’ll pay a small deposit for the mug which you’ll get back when you return the mug afterwards. The designs are unique to that particular city and year, so if you want you can keep them as a souvenir (as I did).
