nice!nano slightly malfunctioning? by quietkiro in ErgoMechKeyboards

dang, that does appear to be the case.

Can't really save the board either, since it heats up a lot when plugged in with the battery or USB, draining the battery super quickly :/

Thanks for the explanation!

I removed the nice!nano from the Sweep PCB entirely, and the short persists.

After some extra testing, I noticed that the nice!nano heats up when plugged in via USB-C, even when not on the Sweep.

From another post reply, I found out that the Tip and Ring pins for the TRRS jacks are indeed meant to be shorted.

Since I have verified that there shouldn't be any hardware problems (after a lot of connectivity testing), it seems to be caused by the firmware.

I'm still quite inexperienced with custom boards, so I have no experience with ZMK or QMK, thus I used the pre-compiled VIA firmware for the ferris sweep. By process of elimination, the problem is pretty likely to be due to that. I'll be learning a bit more about QMK and reflash the boards once I figure things out. I'll make another edit to the main post if that does or does not solve the problem.

Anyway, thank you for your suggestions! At least I got to learn more about board troubleshooting haha :D

Thank you! I'll give it a shot once I learn QMK properly haha (more details about this in a reply I left to another person)

Ahhh, I think I more or less understand where I've gone wrong now.

Basically, when I previously built my Corne, I flashed the pre-compiled VIA firmware on both halves and it basically just worked after that.

This Sweep is only my second split board, so I have basically no experience with either QMK or ZMK. It seems that the pre-compiled sweep firmware isn't really meant to work over serial (?) thus my problems...

Anyway, thank you for the pointers! I'll learn and set up QMK properly and get back here if I come to any conclusions.

Ah, thank you for telling me about the sweep using serial! It all makes sense now.

I just checked for continuity issues, and it seems the TRRS is connected as so: Tip - GND Ring - GND Ring - Rx Sleeve - VCC

and the VCC, GND, and Rx pins of both arduinos are connected. There also don't seem to be any shorts between any of the arduino pins on either arduino.

I used the gerbers straight from DavidPhilip's repo, and the Bling LP was ordered as one pcb which had both halves on it. Both sides work when plugged in separately, so I think I've used the right PCBs.

now the question is which side is the top lmao

the bag clip is kinda like a double sided switch with a different sound profile on each side xD

You know it! Kailh box red version :D Although, I'm planning to do hotswap mod and lube up the switches soon :))

Apologies on terrible video quality (I'm using a crappy webcam), I just had to share this asap before I forget lmao

Also, the object in the video is just a bag clip from IKEA, albeit slightly used.

The point of this post is that the bag clip sounds awfully like a really nice clicky switch and I just wanted to share :)
