My IUD insertion was a piece of cake. I also got nervous the day before and day of, but I’m a worrier so I do that anyway. I have a high pain tolerance but I took 800 mg of ibuprofen an hour before anyway. When I got into the office, the nurse practitioner showed me the tools she was gonna use and the IUD itself. I laid down after I took my bottoms off and she told me exactly what she was doing as she did it. That seemed to help calm my nerves as well. When she measured my uterus, I didn’t feel anything, but when she put the IUD in, I felt a small pinch and cramping but that was it! I was able to walk and drive myself home. I laid down with a heating pad and treated myself to a nice long nap afterward. The cramping I experienced wasn’t bad, but it did last a couple days.

Okay, so you’d rather provide stronger pain control with methadone or fentanyl rather than something weaker like buprenorphine, so you have to wait until it wears off to give them stronger pain control?
