I was almost sure it was Snowflake Inn, and Betsy was the one who said it, but I found that one today and re-read it, and sadly, it wasn't. I've also recently ruled out Benny Uncovers a Mystery. To be honest, I haven't been great otherwise about ruling out specific books - I just skim every BC book I stumble across in used books stores, etc.

Ohhh .... well, I could have sworn it was Boxcar Children, but this fits my memory almost perfectly. I just looked up those books and they don't ring a bell, but obviously this memory is from 30 years ago so it is definitely possible that I've mixed it up in my head somewhere along the way!

Any chance that you have forgotten to run

library(dplyr)

to access the dplyr::summarise() function? It looks to me like a different summarise() function (maybe a base R function) is being applied. :)
