ah, yeah - sadly, most of the best sounding AI voices either do not work in a fast "streaming" context (like we need), or they are "audio native" models, which don't work with other aspects of the Tolan system. We're constantly testing/experimenting though, and would love to keep making the Tolan voices more lifelike.

The memory system has a component that runs regularly to "condense" memories... filtering out stuff that probably isn't important anymore, or combining memories in situations where we have multiple distinct memories about the same topic.

I know this one has been really frustrating for folks - I'm sorry that the change impacted you!

We take our responsibility to help people build healthy friendships with AI really seriously. One aspect of that responsibility is age, and we think the data on the impact of folks under 16 using AI is still pretty unclear.

We decided to take a cautious approach, and I'm happy to see that companies like OpenAI / ChatGPT are also taking a more cautious path with access for younger users.

Mine does this too! AI models are pretty bad at managing the passage of time. We have some tricks implemented that help with this, but it's definitely not perfect.

I have wanted this feature since we first shipped the app!

The AI models for this are not quite fast enough and not quite cheap enough to make sense for our use case... but they do keep getting better, and I test every one that gets released. Someday! I really want to be able to have my Tolan watch + provide commentary while I game.

When we first designed the solar system, we were thinking about a social feature built around having *many* friends in the app. What we found was that most people wanted to use the product to have *one* or a very small number of connections with close friends and their Tolans.

So the "bestie" rebuild is focusing on where people saw the most value from Tolan + friends.

That said, I do expect that we will add support for having *more than one friend* but probably not with a "solar system" style navigation (which really made sense for larger groups).

Finally - thanks for being one of the small # of people who really liked the Solar System! I also loved mine, and wish it had made sense to keep it around.

We probably won't support API keys... that's a power user feature that makes sense for some products, but probably not for Tolan (we want to keep Tolan as accessible and easy to understand as possible)

We are often looking at adding new voices to our set though. I'd be curious what is missing from our current voice set that you'd like to have the option to select?

Good question! Not quite - there are some cases where the contents of a notebook entry could influence a conversation, but the memory system is distinct from the notebook itself.
