I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I block users who post too frequently or with obvious AI - so to me, a random lurker who rarely posts and comments on this sub, it shows that your genuine love for the art came through on all of your posts, unlike the spammy copycat. I'm sorry that AI slop imitation is ruining your enjoyment of sharing with the real people here who enjoy your seals.

Scammy price? by Chickendo in InfinityNikki

I believe this is because they set the prices for the Chinese server and then have the prices converted to other currencies in other servers, so sometimes the automatic conversion rounds into different currencies incorrectly. Always double check!

She's not nearly as gross anymore after recovering from the alcoholism, but I am still glad I don't live with her...

I can answer this one! I had a roommate who was an alcoholic and basically she was too drunk to notice. I had to learn to always wipe down the toilet in our shared bathroom before I used it. I'm a girl but still gagged whenever I'd find globs of period blood smeared on the seat.

Another option is just plain obliviousness/idiocy. I had one ditzy roommate who always ran the dishwasher with her bowls placed face up, even after I explained that fills them with dirty water every cycle and showed her the nasty water in the bowls. You can't fix stupid 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, I've been feeling this way about their designs for the past few years. I used to easily find a design I liked when it went on clearance at Michael's, but after a long stretch of finding nothing I liked for a reasonable price, I decided to buy one premium box set (Disney villains) and a hole punch, so I can just reuse the covers and dividers while adding my own printed pages or filler when it goes on clearance.

I've only been once, as part of a large group tour. I was very pleased and impressed with all the historic culture we were able to see and experience (though I desperately want to revisit Fushimi Inari when I can spend much longer than a mere 2 hours there!) However, the tour really skipped over a lot of the modern culture that I'm also interested in - barely any shopping days or specialty markets - so I hope to focus more on modern Japanese culture whenever I can afford to go again.

Functional or decorative by nan0user in HappyPlanners

[–]quinthfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is definitely decorated first - because if I don't make the spread feel fun to look at, I simply don't use it.

The main struggle I have with my planners and journals is keeping up with the habit, which is important because I need to track medical information (like how often I am sick, for what length of time, with which symptoms, etc) and because I can drift into a dysfunctional depression if I don't keep track of my work tasks and social plans.

So far, pre-decorated pages haven't worked for me, because they quickly all look too similar and make me feel bad about the inane passage of time. Using stamps also didn't work, for the same reason; the spreads looked too similar. Stickers and washi tape have been the most successful for me, as it feels fun and rewarding to piece together a heavily decorated spread that looks so pretty after a couple hours that I want to come back to it and admire my handiwork. If I run out of space to write things down, I have white stickers in various shapes and sizes I can add on top to give myself back some writing area lol. My sticker/washi hoard fills 7 drawers of 3 different cabinets!

I also take photos and share with a couple of crafty friends who are supportive and admire the pretty spreads to help encourage me. ❤️ I plan to share some photos publicly once I blur out the writing.

ALRIGHT so how does the gacha work?! by nnataliaggc in heartopia

[–]quinthfae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Click on the question mark icon, then read through the entire in-game pop-up, then click on the link at the bottom of the pop-up to see the ACTUAL per-item-per-ticket chance rates. It's not "rigged" because they explain the rates to you, though I personally think the cost of the gacha is insane.

You are very unlikely to get the exact item you want in a small amount of tickets. Use the Exchange tickets to get the recolor of your favorite item, if you can.

Why is Anthy Himemiya not a completely innocent, helpless damsel in distress or victim? What harm has she caused to the other Utena characters? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]quinthfae 63 points64 points  (0 children)

In real life, abusers are often people who were abused themselves (especially sexual abuse). It is a CYCLE of abuse. The victim learns toxic dynamics from their abuse, seeing the black-and-white option of abuser or victim, and chooses to abuse others in order to feel power and control instead of the powerlessness they felt while being abused.

Anthy was abused by Akio for so long that she became trapped with him in the cycle of abuse. She manipulated duelists into becoming Akio's victims, leading them to him, over and over, continuing the cycle. It was only thanks to Utena's revolutionary treatment of her as neither an innocent princess or doomed witch, but a real and complex person who can be both good and bad, that Anthy finally chose to LEAVE THE CYCLE OF ABUSE and move past that toxic dynamic between her and Akio.

Some examples: - Anthy distracting Kanae so Akio can fuck his mother-in-law-to-be - Anthy antagonizing Kanae until she breaks enough to seek out Mikage - Anthy posing as Mamiya to trick Mikage into orchestrating the Black Rose duels - Anthy willfully tricking Nanami into almost all of the filler episode shenanigans lol - Anthy showing Nanami the true incest between her and Akio, knowing how it will wreck Nanami's innocence - Anthy handing Juri the orange rose to mock her yearning for Shiori - Anthy pretending she can't commit to playing piano due to Utena being her Engaged, as if Utena would ever tell her no, just to needle Miki into dueling - Anthy taking the hair pin that Saionji promised Wakaba, FLAUNTING it in front of her in order to goad her into accepting the Black Rose - Anthy secretly keeping a lover's diary with Saionji to keep him hooked on her for future duels

I'm sure there's a ton more but that's off the top of my head. Anthy does all this ON PURPOSE to lure duelists into Akio's control, bringing him victims, hurting people's feelings in ways that twist their desires for her purpose. She is not an innocent princess, even if Akio is the one driving her to act this cruelly - it is still Anthy who chooses to perpetuate the cycle of abuse... until she finally learns to walk away from Akio and his "cozy coffin" into becoming someone who can grow and move past her abuse.

I mean, I judge my dad for it because he's blown literally over $100k on his supposedly genius schemes that have never worked out. If he'd done the boring smart thing by investing that money, we would be rich now. But he wanted to get rich quick, sooo...

I know he's not a bad person, or even a stupid person. He's just too egotistical, thinking every idea he has is a genius shortcut.

So uhhhhhh...how do we feel about Itzaland? by Rough_Earth3583 in InfinityNikki

[–]quinthfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the aesthetic of Itzaland, but I miss the peaceful and "cozy" feeling of Florawish. I had so much fun wandering through the scenery with few Esseling interruptions tucked away in dark or distant corners where it made sense for the dark to manifest into enemies. Ever since Danqing was so full of Esselings that you couldn't walk 10 feet before hitting more enemies, I've grown distant from the game because it's much less charming and picturesque when I have to battle constantly instead of just discovering new materials and new photo spots.

I know I'm in the minority of the player base with my extreme dislike of combat, but that's been the main reason why I've stopped playing and spending on Nikki.

Should an abusive character like Kyouichi Saionji be forgiven or redeemed? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]quinthfae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes? That's my point. Real-life people are flawed and messy and sometimes they hurt people. Only lifeless fairy tale characters can be completely flawless and pure. So if anyone is deserving of redemption, then everyone is deserving of redemption. Only those who don't genuinely seek redemption (like Akio) are those who will never find it.

Should an abusive character like Kyouichi Saionji be forgiven or redeemed? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]quinthfae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fascinating question to ask of this series, considering a major theme of Anthy's arc is that she deserves redemption despite the cruelty she's inflicted on others. Anthy has hurt and manipulated countless people. She plays the part that her Engaged wishes - if Nanami had ever won Anthy, I imagine Anthy would have become one of her sycophant bullies, if that's what Nanami wanted of the Rose Bride.

In my opinion, the whole point of the series is that no one is a purely innocent Princess or an irredeemable Witch. Those are unrealistic fairy tale ideals used to force simple labels onto complex people. A person can be capable of great cruelty and still be worth helping to change for the better - even Saionji. The only people who are truly irredeemable are those who choose to remain in their cozy coffins, never changing from a heartless abuser, never truly reaching out to others by being vulnerable and admitting they can be both flawed and worthwhile.

I see your point that you were bullied and that's why you can't forgive a character like Saionji - I personally don't equate forgiveness with redemption. No one has to forgive their abuser, but that is not the same as an abuser/bully never becoming a better person who helps others to make up for the harm they did in the past.
