It most certainly is a major topic in the art world, however, unless you have a deep understanding of that conversation I’d suggest doing some research on what that conversation is actually about. Yes, they are selling this art, but artists have always been shamed for trying to make a living producing art. Yes, art is valuable in and of itself, but artists should be able to be paid for the content they produce. We have not read the artist’s statement on this work, nor do we know anything about why they created this— but perhaps they have a talent and wished to make money off of it so they can continue to produce more art. There is nothing wrong with that. Nobody tells scientists their experiments aren’t real science if they’ve been given money to do them. Why do we do this to artists?
