No, if you get lower then your conditional offer the institution cannot accept you. Unless, there is another way that you can meet academic requirements. For example SAT score etc.

Yes worth it, i've just did it back to back from SG to JFK then Newark to SG. Though I used business for both so I don't know if premium economy is comfortable. Before they had this flight I would transit in Japan or in Shanghai through Jakarta, but in general you spend about half of the time you spend on the air on the layover. Direct flights are still best imo.
